Job summary

WKRG-TV News 5 in Mobile, Alabama is seeking a social media savvy Journalist/Presenter to co-anchor weekday AM newscasts and produce digital livestreams across platforms. You will host scheduled programs and breaking news with a high level of production quality and audience engagement.

The successful candidate will also serve as a Multimedia Journalist covering content for our platforms, arranging live interviews, and reporting for digital and on-air distribution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or related field; or equivalent combination.
• 3+ years' experience in a local newsroom preferred.
• Fluency in English.
• Strong news judgment and integrity.
• Ability to ad-lib in dynamic situations.
• Experience with live interviews and field reporting.

Responsibilities

News & Digital Livestream Anchor (Mobile, Alabama)

WKRG-TV News 5, the Nexstar CBS television affiliate in Mobile/Pensacola, seeks a social media savvy Journalist/Presenter to Co-Anchor AM Newscasts and Produce & Present Digital Livestreams and Programs on our award-winning team in the Mobile, Alabama / Pensacola, Florida DMA.

The successful candidate will co-anchor weekday morning news broadcasts and produce & host livestreams on all platforms; broadcast, digital, OTT, and social.

When not anchoring or hosting, you will also serve as a Multimedia Journalist covering content for our media platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers.

• Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Present newscast stories on camera with accuracy in a professional, dynamic, warm, and engaging manner.
• Book and conduct live interviews in studio and via remotes to bring informative and entertaining content and conversations to morning news viewers
• Produce & Host livestreams (scheduled programs & breaking news) ensuring high-quality production, accuracy, and audience engagement
• Work with content managers newsroom colleagues to identify and execute frequent livestream opportunities
• Leverage online and social media presence to connect and converse with audience, generate story leads, and promote audience growth on all platforms
• Serve as an ambassador to our coverage area by representing the station at community events and activities
• Copy edit broadcast, digital, and social media stories to ensure accuracy, clarity, and strong storytelling
• Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned
• Report live online, on social media channels, and on-air
• Create original content for wkrg.com, social media and streaming platforms
• Research/gather/analyze information, interviews, and video to produce accurate, complete, in-depth, relevant, and fair news reports for publication (digital & social media) and broadcast
• Ensure that all content produced meets company standards for journalistic integrity, timeliness, and production quality
• Author strong copy with correct grammar, punctuation, editorial style, and formatting to meet the requirements of each digital, social, and on-air distribution platform
• Quickly solidify presence on all key beats and develop strong professional relationships with reliable sources
• Daily, pitch & break exclusive, enterprise news stories online, on social media channels, and on-air
• Report/shoot/edit video and audio content of varying lengths/formats to match the requirements of each digital, social, and on-air distribution platform
• Cooperate and communicate clearly, directly, and regularly with news teammates and other station departments
• Share content across Nexstar's digital network
• Required & Preferred Capabilities:
• Strong news judgment and high journalistic integrity
• Candidates with Investigative Reporting experience preferred
• Confident, authentic, charismatic on-camera presence
• Be able to ad-lib in dynamic situations
• Work well under pressure - ability to handle breaking news and last-minute changes with aplomb
• Low-to-zero call/approach reluctance - ability to confidently engage with viewers, officials, those affected by stories, and others to cultivate story leads and information
• Develop new livestream concepts and interactive programming.
• Professional savvy and collegial demeanor when interacting with colleagues and members of the public
• Strong, candid knowledge of self & capabilities and display the willingness and ability to take action to learn, improve, and grow
• Fluency in English
• 3+ years' experience in a local newsroom preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or a related or complimentary field of study; or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience preferred
• Flexibility to work any shift
• Technical Skills Sought:
• Mastery of AP writing style to author digital, social, and on-air content
• Confident and capable visual storyteller who is able to gather compelling video, strong natural sound, and solid interviews with field video gear to produce people-centered stories
• Strong non-linear video editing skills required - familiarity with Adobe Premiere video editing software preferred
• Produce and edit vertical video for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels and other platforms.
• Optimize YouTube content through strong packaging, including headlines, thumbnails, descriptions and metadata.
• Analyze audience trends and performance data to improve reach and engagement.
• Experience with OBS & vMix streaming tools and AKTA platform preferred.
• Familiarity and confidence with ENPS rundown and story management system preferred
• Familiarity and confidence with Wordpress digital content publishing system preferred
• Valid driver's license required for hire. A clean driving record is required and must be maintained to be able to safely & confidently operate company motor vehicles
• Physical Demands & Work Environment:
• The Anchor / MMJ must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work outdoors with various weather conditions and indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
• Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.
