Marion Technical College invites applications for an Anatomy & Physiology Adjunct Faculty position in Marion, OH. The instructor provides instruction, holds student conferences, and maintains accurate grade and attendance records under the dean's direction.

Teaching will cover basic anatomy, A&P I & II, exercise physiology, and possibly microbiology, in diverse classrooms and online environments, with emphasis on applied learning and student success.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field with eighteen graduate semester hours in human anatomy/physiology, genetics, microbiology, cell biology, pathophysiology or similar.
  • Post-secondary education teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent English communication and writing skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teach anatomy, anatomy & physiology I, anatomy and physiology II, exercise physiology, and microbiology (if credentialed).
  • Respond to student inquiries while maintaining confidentiality and FERPA standards.
  • Teach in various environments, on- and off-campus, including web-based and other sites.
  • Prepare and update course syllabi and materials; manage records of grades and attendance.
  • Work with faculty and administration and participate in instructional procedures at multiple locations.
  • Maintain accuracy of grades, attendance, and student records; adapt to irregular schedules.
  • Teach lecture and laboratory courses; operate laboratory equipment; monitor safety in classrooms and labs.
  • Attend meetings and trainings before or during each term.

POSITION SUMMARY

To provide instruction, be accessible as assigned for student conferences (i.e. immediately prior to and following class sessions or by appointment), and maintain adequate and accurate academic performance and attendance records of students – all under the direction of the department dean or representative.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Typical courses of instruction basic anatomy, anatomy & physiology I, anatomy and physiology II, exercise physiology, and potentially microbiology (if credentialed and interested).
  • Respond to inquiries from students, College employees and customers while maintaining standards of confidentiality and privacy, in a timely manner. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the College, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.
  • Teach approved courses using applied learning methods in accordance with the course objectives, the established syllabus, the schedule of classes, and other College and program requirements. Instruct in a variety of learning environments, both on- and off-campus, which may include web-based, high schools, and other sites.
  • Demonstrate ability and expertise in one's discipline and enthusiasm and creativity in teaching to create an environment that motivates students to learn. Manage the classroom and maintain records including preparing and updating course syllabi, course materials, technology, and web-based courses.
  • Work with other faculty and the administration in carrying out all instructional procedures and willingness to follow procedures, both at on- and off-campus locations.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, etc. and academic performance of students. Maintain accurate records and possess strong organizational skills. Flexibility to meet academic classroom schedules and off-campus sites. Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
  • Ability to teach lecture and laboratory courses and operate laboratory equipment. Monitor safety practices within the classroom and laboratory.
  • Attend organizational, orientation, or training meetings held preceding or during each academic term and departmental meetings whenever feasible.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Biological Sciences, Anatomical Sciences, Human Anatomy & Physiology, or a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a related discipline with eighteen graduate semester hours in in a combination of human anatomy/physiology, genetics, microbiology, cell biology, pathophysiology or similar discipline required. Post-secondary education teaching experience preferred. Exhibit excellent English, communication, and writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with strong computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight. Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Candidate must successfully pass a background check, prior to and after employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

Knowledge of BIOPAC Systems technology for teaching in life sciences preferred.

Experience teaching in a human cadaver laboratory preferred .

Experience teaching anatomy and physiology preferred .

Experience teaching microbiology preferred .
