About the Role
The City of Alexandria is seeking an entry-level Analytics Data Engineer to join the Office of Performance Analytics (OPA).This role is ideal for someone excited to help shape a new citywide data strategy focused on centralizing and integrating data for better decision-making and public transparency.
As part of our small, dynamic team,you'llhelp build foundational data practices to ensure Alexandria’s data isaccurate, accessible, and valuable forcity leaders and residents alike.

Key Responsibilities
Clean, transform, and prepare raw datato be analytics-readyusing ELTandETL best practices.
Deliverand manageinternal and public open datatoprovidetransparency and accessto the City’s data.
Collaborate with departmentsto develop and implement data governance policies that support quality, security, and access.
Maintainconsistency and accuracy of data,throughoutthedata lifecycle by collaborating within theCitygovernment and applying best practice approaches.
Support business intelligence toolsby organizing indicators,monitoringdashboards, and managing user access.
Build data literacyby training staff on data as an organizational asset.
Assistanalystsby developinghigh-quality datasets for use incitywide analytics projects.
What You Should Bring
Foundational Technical Skills:Familiarity with ELTandETL processes and toolsincludingGUI-based platforms like Microsoft Data Factory, AWS Glue, or Tableau Prepand/or coding languagessuch as R, Python, or SQL.
Data Management Mindset: Eagerness to learn and apply best practices in organizing, centralizing, and enriching datasets.
Attention to Detail: Ability to transform raw data intoaccurate, curated datasets for analysis and decision-making.

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in public policy, statistics, data science, public administration or related field of study and two years of relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
