Job Description

Vertex is seeking a talented and motivated individual with the desire to be part of a highly innovative company aimed at transforming the lives of people with serious diseases, their families and society. The Senior Manager Director role is within HEOR's Analytics Center of Excellence (CoE), a specialized team that provides strategic and technical support to HEOR, Market Access & Pricing, and the broader commercial organization.

In this role, the Senior Manager will primarily support HEOR disease/asset teams in real-world observational and claims data research activities. The Senior Manager will support colleagues looking to answer key questions that can be addressed using Vertex's in-licensed RWE data assets. This includes planning and conducting analyses to inform on questions related to disease prevalence, disease burden and progression, healthcare resource utilization and costs, and treatment patterns in 'real world' patient populations. The Senior Manager is also expected to provide methodological expertise to research design, including development of study protocols, analysis plans, and table shells. This role will work closely with a team of statistical programmers to lead the execution of data queries and analyses.

The role has flexibility to be in-person, hybrid, or remote.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leverage Vertex's in-licensed RWE data assets to conduct queries and analyses to support the Vertex product portfolio and development programs across a range of therapeutic and disease areas. Research initiatives include the following:
    • Conduct feasibility assessments to inform design and execution of research projects
    • Conduct health economic and outcomes research to better characterize disease burden, healthcare resource utilization, co-morbidities, and treatment patterns in 'real world' populations
    • Generate actionable insights to address key business questions from internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead the development of study protocols, statistical analysis plans, and table shells
  • Support statistical programmers through the execution of data queries and analyses
  • Generate analytic reports, tables, and visualizations to communicate research findings effectively to internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to improve efficiency of current analytics operating model
  • Contribute to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of internal analytic tools (e.g., programming libraries, reusable macros, table templates), to support the quality and consistency of data and analyses
  • Support HEOR disease/asset leads in assessment of research gaps and evidence generation objectives that may be addressed through observational research
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in health economics or a related discipline (such as mathematics, statistics, economics, epidemiology)
  • Typically requires 6 years of relevant experience in health economics and outcomes research, or the equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., Doctorate degree and 2 years of experience, Master's degree and 4 years of experience)
  • Knowledge of observational research methods and their application to studies assessing disease burden, healthcare resource utilization, treatment patterns, comorbidities, and health outcomes studies in real-world patient populations
  • Hands-on experience analyzing large patient-level healthcare datasets, including open and closed claims, EHR/EMR data, and hospital chargemaster data (e.g., MarketScan, PharMetrics Plus, eLAAD+, Premier)
  • Working knowledge of national healthcare coding systems, including diagnostic, procedure, and drug coding, as well as relevant healthcare system structures
  • Advanced proficiency in SAS programming and Excel required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey complex analytic findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in different therapeutic areas
Pay Range

$144,000 - $216,000

Disclosure Statement

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
