We produce a wide range of specialist, high specification materials that have extraordinary attributes and properties. Despite the complexity of our technologies, our focus is simple – we supply innovative, differentiated products made from advanced materials which enable our customers’ products to perform more efficiently, more reliably and for longer.

We are looking for an analytical design engineer to join our Center of Excellence (CoE) for Metals and Joining. The position will be based in our New Bedford, MA site. The ideal candidate is responsible for performing advanced simulations and analyses across multiple physical domains, including thermal, structural, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics. This role involves using computational modeling tools to solve complex engineering problems, optimize product performance, and support our R&D efforts in industries such as aerospace, semiconductors, medical and other applications.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and validate analytical models of complex physics phenomena, such as thermo-mechanical (FEA / CHT) and fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Develop, implement and validate analytical models of material deposition phenomena to optimize manufacturing and coating processes.
  • Simulation of thermodynamic systems to predict energy transformations, phase changes, chemical equilibria, and material behavior under different conditions, for design of new alloys.
  • Analyze system behavior under real-world operating conditions to improve design efficiency.
  • Optimize material properties, geometries, and manufacturing processes to enhance performance.

Highlights of Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Support design teams with insights from simulations and recommend engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with R&D, product design, materials engineering, and manufacturing teams to integrate analysis results into product development.
  • Provide technical expertise in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and other relevant fields.
  • Develop reports and presentations to communicate results to stakeholders
  • Research scientific papers and patents.
  • Contribute to IP to substantiate business growth.
  • Adheres to Morgan safety and ethics protocols
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, material science, or a related field; PhD preferred; Bachelor’s degree may be considered with the right expertise
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python is preferred.
  • Experience in materials modelling (e.g. CALPHAD, FACTSAGE).
  • Experience with tools like ANSYS, COMSOL Multiphysics, Abaqus, or CFD-based software.
  • Knowledgeable in physical metallurgy, particularly thermodynamics of metals, alloys, and ceramics.
  • Knowledgeable in mechanical testing of materials, and microstructure analysis.
  • Familiarity with statistical design of experiments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is imperative to succeed in the role.
  • Limited travel including international travel may be required.
  • Individual must be:
    • Citizen of the United States, or
    • Permanent resident alien of the United States, or
    • Protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) as defined by 22CFR120.15
