Job summary

General Motors seeks an Analytical Battery Chemist to perform chemical and materials characterization of battery components, raw materials, and samples. You will support manufacturing, product development, quality investigations, and electrification programs through testing and method development.

You will generate high-quality data, communicate findings, and collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and research teams to solve battery-related challenges. onsite role in the US.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of practical experience with chemical, electrochemical, and battery cell testing.
• Preferred: MS degree and advanced battery analysis techniques.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on analysis of automotive and battery materials using standard and custom test methods.
• Maintain analytical instrumentation, ensuring readiness through preventive maintenance.
• Author comprehensive reports detailing analytical results and findings.
• Establish timelines and project plans to meet internal and external expectations.
• Consult with cross-functional teams as a subject matter expert in chemical measurement.
• Apply data-driven problem-solving using lab test data to diagnose and recommend solutions.
• Adapt to changing project scopes and manage ambiguity effectively.
• Evaluate and implement new analytical methods to improve capabilities and efficiency.
• Adhere to GM safety practices and laboratory protocols.
• Work effectively both independently and in a team environment.

Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or a related scientific field

Master of Science degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field
