Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking an Analyst for Structured Load Analytics in Houston, TX. You will operate and improve data from load forecasting products, manage forecasts and variance analysis, and report on retail power components. You will engage with stakeholders to explain results, drivers, and settlement analyses.

The role requires a quantitative degree and at least two years in load forecasting or related pricing and accounting roles; SQL knowledge is essential for data systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Financial Engineering, or other quantitative field. Advanced degrees desired.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in load forecasting and advanced statistical methods or roles in product control, pricing, or accounting.
  • Proficiency in system architecture for customer data, risk, and forecasting systems from a retail perspective. Working knowledge of SQL Server or Oracle SQL.
  • Knowledge of regression modeling, including neural-net, simple regression, and hybrid modeling.
  • Experience with load and modeling constituents, weather influences, and transformation functions.
  • Ability to conduct statistical analyses to construct performance metrics (MAD, MAPE, etc.).
  • Programming skills including SQL, scripting and object‑oriented coding (Python, Matlab, R, SAS, VBA).
  • Understanding of disaggregated power markets, portfolio management and energy supply stack.

Role Summary

Analyst, Structured Load Analytics – Houston, TX

Primary responsibility: operation, maintenance and reporting of data from load forecasting and product control systems. Manage long‑term forecast updates, variance analysis, and reporting of retail power components. Communicate results, drivers, and feedback to stakeholders regarding forecast output, settlement analysis, and performance analytics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Financial Engineering, or other quantitative field. Advanced degrees desired.

• Minimum 2 years experience in load forecasting and advanced statistical methods or roles in product control, pricing, or accounting. Proficiency in system architecture for customer data, risk, and forecasting systems from a retail perspective. Working knowledge of SQL Server or Oracle SQL.

• Knowledge of:

  • Regression modeling, including neural‑net, simple regression, and hybrid modeling
  • Load and modeling constituents, including weather and transform functions
  • Statistical analysis to construct performance metrics (MAD, MAPE, etc.)
  • Moderate to advanced programming skills (SQL, scripting/object‑oriented coding including Python, Matlab, R, SAS, VBA)
  • Disregulated power markets: portfolio management, optimization, energy supply stack, customer profiling
  • Load: ISO‑level, regional, zonal, congestion, customer profiles, C&I and mass customers
  • Trending analysis, correlation to weather, attrition, conservation
  • Short‑ and long‑term forecast (time scales from hours to decades)
  • Electricity‑market hedge instruments, settlement mechanisms, volatility attributes, liquidity constraints
  • Market load and deviation settlement mechanisms, capable of shadow‑settlement calculations

Work in a fast‑paced environment; strong multitasking ability. Proficiency in application development and data visualization tools. Fundamental knowledge of weather and energy business for portfolio optimization.
