Job summary

Onward Energy is seeking an entry-level Analyst for Power Markets & Origination in Denver. You will support the management of a growing portfolio, including energy settlements, REC administration, and market research.

The role emphasizes analytical rigor, self-starting initiative, and collaboration across Asset Managers, Engineers, and Accounting. Hybrid work environment with competitive total rewards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with quantitative focus; degree may be substituted by experience.
• 0–2 years in energy markets, settlements, accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to build and analyze complex models.
• Knowledge of NA electricity markets (CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP, ISO-NE, NYISO) is beneficial.
• Excellent problem solving and verbal/written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Understand commercial revenue contracts incl. PPAs, energy hedges, and other contracts.
• Manage compliance obligations and log communications across the portfolio.
• Perform market research related to energy bidding strategies and trades.
• Support daily bidding strategy development and bid submissions.
• Manage settlement reconciliation and invoice creation; update revenue models.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for Power Markets & Origination processes.
• Oversee REC administration incl. deliveries, reconciliations, invoicing, reporting.
• Support regulatory reporting deliverables (FERC EQRs, EIA reports).
• Serve as SME for ISO settlement tariffs, market rules, and related processes.
• Identify processes to optimize and opportunities for automation.
• Collaborate with Asset Managers, Engineers, Accountants, Attorneys.

Position Title: Analyst, Power Markets & Origination

Reports To: Senior Manager, Power Markets & Origination

Direct Reports: No Functional Unit: Power Markets & Origination

FLSA Status: Exempt Position Type: Full-Time

Location: New York City or Denver Colorado

This role is an entry-level position on the Power Markets & Origination team. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to support the management of Onward Energy’s growing portfolio of assets, including energy settlements, revenue contract compliance, trading support, customer relationship management, REC portfolio management, and market research.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Company’s commercial revenue contracts, including long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), energy hedges, heat rate call options, and other commercial contracts.
• Manage, administer, track compliance obligations and log communications across the portfolio, including reporting deliverables, guaranteed energy production, delivery of financial statements, and other counterparty requirements.
• Perform market research and analysis related to energy bidding strategies, forward energy trades, Financial Transmission Rights/Congestion Revenue Rights and structured products, including identification of correlations in datasets.
• Support daily bidding strategy development and confirmation of bid submissions.
• Manage settlement reconciliation and invoice creation for Onward Energy’s portfolio of thermal, wind, and solar projects by:
  • Maintaining and enhancing settlement and revenue models,
  • Analyzing settlement data to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy of revenue calculations,
  • Coordinate with Accounting and other internal teams to ensure timely and accurate invoice issuance, and
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for critical Power Markets & Origination processes and procedures.
• Oversee a variety of obligations tied to the portfolio’s Renewable Energy Credit (REC) administration, including tracking deliveries, reconciliations, invoicing, regulatory reporting, and compliance with market requirements.
• Support the preparation of State and Federal regulatory reporting deliverables, such as FERC EQRs, EIA reports, etc.
• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Independent System Operator (ISO) settlement tariffs, market rules, settlement methodologies, and related processes impacting Onward Energy's portfolio.
• Take initiative to identify existing processes that can be optimized to improve overall performance and reliability and/or find opportunities for automation.
• Support the Power Markets & Origination team in ad-hoc assignments relating portfolio risk management, M&A due diligence, and market research.
• Collaborate with several different teams across the company, including Asset Managers, Engineers, Accountants and Attorneys, to support the commercial and operational performance of the Company’s portfolio.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

The successful candidate will bring a combination of analytical rigor, curiosity, ability to self-start, attention to detail, and strong desire to learn and grow within the energy industry.

• Bachelor’s Degree with quantitative focus (e.g., Economics, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Finance). Experience may substitute for degre e.
• 0 – 2 years of professional experience in energy markets, settlements, accounting, finance, commercial operations, or a related field.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to build, maintain, and analyze complex models and datasets.
• Ability to quickly gain proficiency with concepts driving the North American organized electricity markets (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, SPP, ISO-NE, or NYISO); knowledge of bilateral energy markets is also beneficial.
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data from various sources, understand issues, and identify solutions.
• Self-starter with a strong work ethic and aptitude for intellectual curiosity; ability to do independent research, learning and analysis using various tools including LLMs and linear regression.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Onward Energy is currently implementing a hybrid office environment, with team members in the office at least three days per week. The position functions in a smoke and vaping-free professional office environment. The role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as laptop computers, phones, and scanner/photocopier.
