Job summary

WM is seeking an Accounting Analyst II to support WM Area Finance/Accounting teams and Corporate Finance/Accounting. The role covers month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements.

You will analyze results, communicate trends, and provide insights while coordinating monthly financial packages. A Bachelor's degree plus relevant experience is required, with strong analytical and accounting skills preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) required.
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited) plus four years or relevant work experience.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in addition to education.

Responsibilities

  • Executes moderately complex financial tasks and completes analytical projects per guidelines.
  • Performs month-end close activities including journal entries of low to high complexity.
  • Analyzes general ledger accounts and prepares reconciliations with documented conclusions.
  • Analyzes monthly financial results; communicates trends and insights.
  • Collects and analyzes financial data and prepares monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Assists with evaluating accounting consequences of potential transactions.
  • Participates in monthly financial review meetings.
  • Provides guidance on internal and external financial accounting procedures.
  • Assists with internal controls management and timely execution of control activities.

Job description

I. Job Summary

Accounting Analyst II will provide accounting and finance coverage for all WM Area Finance/Accounting teams and Corporate Finance/Accounting departments (i.e. finance, accounting, internal audit, treasury). The analyst will be assigned to support projects and assignments across a variety of Finance functions.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Executes moderately complex financial tasks in a timely and accurate manner; and completes individual analytical projects in a satisfactory manner given abstract project guidelines.
  • Performs month-end close activities for assigned areas of responsibility including preparing journal entries of low to high complexity.
  • Analyzes general ledger accounts for accuracy; Prepare monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and adequately document conclusions.
  • Analyzes monthly financial results; able to communicate trends in results and provide meaningful insights into the results. Displays critical thinking skills in preparation of analyses.
  • Collects and analyze financial data and prepare monthly combined financial statements and reports. Coordinate preparation of monthly financial package and reviews for accuracy.
  • Assists with evaluating, documenting, and concluding on the accounting consequences of potential transactions.
  • Participates in monthly financial review meetings.
  • Provides guidance to other Finance personnel for proper internal and external financial accounting procedures and their application.
  • Assists with the maintenance and application of internal controls. Execute internal controls responsibilities timely and accurately.
