Job Description
POSITION GOAL To provide analytical and technical services related to payroll functions for the Volusia County Schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES General Duties
- 1. *Assist in analysis of employee salaries.
- 2. *Process base salary, salary supplements, miscellaneous pay and leave payments for administrative, instructional, and support staff.
- 3. *Ensure employee salary and leave is processed in accordance with collective bargaining contracts, board policy, state statutes and federal wage and labor law.
- 4. *Review and verify years of service for leave payouts.
- 5. *Adjust salary payments for changes in employee status, allotment, experience, or position.
- 6. *Adjust leave accruals and usage for changes in employee status, allotment, or position.
- 7. *Verify and/or adjust base salary, salary supplements, unpaid time, extended time, and overtime for retroactive pay.
- 8. *Develop and maintain employee payroll records.
- 9. *Review salary and leave reports and verify content for accuracy.
- 10. *Respond to inquiries associated with gross wages, adjustments, taxes and other payroll deductions.
- 11. *Maintain data bases related to special payroll status such as worker’s compensation, sick bank, and sick leave transfers.
- 12. *Work collaboratively with the human resources, insurance and employee benefits and technology services departments to ensure employee payments, deductions and records are maintained accurately and in a timely fashion.
- 13. *Receive information, requests, and complaints and bring to resolution.
- 14. * Perform other related duties as assigned by the Payroll Director.
ERP Trainer
- 15. *Travel within the school district for training.
- 16. *Provide payroll training and back up for all payroll contacts.
- 17. *Assist Human Resources in the development of procedures to verify salaries and salary additives.
- 18. *Provide support for Human Resources department.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years work experience in advanced clerical office work, payroll experience preferred
- Computer experience with payroll applications preferred
- Valid Florida Driver License or ability to acquire one within thirty (30) days of employment, except in cases where accommodation is required
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Skilled in operating computers, adding machines, and commonly used office management software, including word processing, spreadsheets and data bases
- Research skills emphasizing necessary documentation and interpretation of data
- Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public, employees, administrators, and outside agencies
- Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain organization, and meet deadlines
- Ability to function as a working member of the management team
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with a high level of accountability
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize a varied workload
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
- Ability to solve problems, make decisions and take action in an effective and timely manner
- Ability to use sound judgement in dealing with sensitive or confidential information/material
- Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with district staff and the community
