Job Duties:

In addition to adhering to the general staff guidelines asspecified by the AMSTI Director, the Provost and Vice President forAcademic Affairs and Student Services, the In-service CenterDirector, and the State Board of Education, AMSTI and AMSTI-ASIMContent Specialist responsibilities include the following:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING:

• Facilitate and/or participate in professional learning forteachers and administrators based on assignments and/or LEA needs,including online options
• Assist AMSTI-ALSDE in developing and maintaining standardized,pre-approved professional learning opportunities and supportingresources for AMSTI and/or for the ALSDE, including online options,and submit them to ALSDE for approval
• Provide ongoing professional learning to AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM leadteachers, certified AMSTI facilitators, and instructionalcoaches
• Assist IHEs with planning and conducting pre-service education,continuing education, and outreach activities
• Participate in AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM professional learningactivities and staff meetings conducted by the ALSDE and siteddirector, unless prior approval for absence is granted

EDUCATOR SUPPORT:

• Provide frequent, ongoing support and coaching to teachers,AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM lead teachers, certified AMSTI facilitators,coaches, and/or administrators based on assignments and/or LEAneeds (in situations where the specialist is leading the classroomor team-teaching, the classroom teacher must always bepresent)
• Assist AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM teachers in effectively using commonplanning time and Professional Learning Communities to improveinstruction
• Assist in recruiting new AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM teachers and/orfacilitators
• Research the effects of current math, science, and/ortechnology practices in AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM classrooms, as requestedby AMSTI-ALSDE
• Coordinate work through the AMSTI site director, collaboratewith other specialists, and communicate with all stakeholders
• Achieve and maintain proficiency in all standards, pedagogicaland content knowledge, and AMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM lessons and practicesthrough AMSTI-ALSDE and approved outside professional learningopportunities, based on the requirements

INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES:

• Work with general and materials managers to make site-leveldecisions based on teacher needs and requests
• Provide feedback to AMSTI- ALSDE regarding customization ofkits and resources to make them teacher and classroom-friendly

GENERAL DUTIES:

• Maintain records (including financial) and complete paperworkin a timely manner, utilizing structures in Monday.com
• Participate in the development, maintenance, and promotion ofAMSTI/AMSTI-ASIM resources according to the resource developmentand PR guidelines
• Communicate with AMSTI site director/PI and AMSTI-ALSDE inadvance regarding plans for retirement or resignation plans (undernormal circumstances, a minimum of six-month advance notice isrequested)
• Specialist responsibilities include but are not limited tothose listed in all categories above; specialists may be requiredto perform other duties as assigned by the AMSTI site director orAMSTI-ALSDE

Required Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:

• A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in the specificsubject area and grade level of the position in an Alabama publicschool
• AMSTI and/or AMSTI-ASIM training must be current and correspondto the subject area and grade span of the position
• Knowledge of PC systems and a variety of software
• Skill in time and project management
• Ability to communicate effectively, including oral, written,and interpersonal skills
• Ability to bring creative and innovative solutions to problemsand demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and service
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritizeeffectively
• Ability to move a minimum of 50 pounds

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS

• Valid Alabama Teachers' Certification required
• Valid Driver's License
• Clear status with FBI and ABI fingerprinting process

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

AMSTI Elementary Math and/or Science

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Educationrequired; Master's degree or higher in Education preferred
• Valid Alabama Teachers' Certification in Early Childhood orElementary Education
• AMSTI MATH and/or SCIENCE trainer certification preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Ability to ascend and/or descend a ladder to access materialsin the AMSTI warehouse
• Ability to move self in different positions to accomplish tasksin various environments, including tight and/or confinedspaces
• Ability to remain in a stationary position, such as standingand/or sitting, for a prolonged period of time
• Occasionally perform duties that require low postures such ascrouching, kneeling, and/or stooping.
• Ability to adjust or move up to 50 pounds

Salary Schedule:

Salary will be based on degree, experience and the AMSTI salaryschedule. This is a 11-month contract. Future employment iscontingent upon AMSTI funding. Benefits available as appropriatefor sponsored programs.
