Allina Health seeks a Spoken Language Interpreter to facilitate clear communication between LEP patients and healthcare professionals. You will provide in-person, telephone and video interpreting across metro sites, and translate documents as requested.

The role is 1.0 FTE, day shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., onsite with travel between appointments. Requires Minnesota Medical Interpreters Roster and licensure or certification within 1 year.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with required competencies as listed in the job description.
• Vocational or technical interpreter training (e.g., Bridging the Gap).
• 0–2 years interpreting experience, preferably in health care.
• Minnesota Medical Interpreters Roster is required.
• Valid driver's license required; MN/WI residents must obtain within 60 days.
• Certification options within 1 year (NHCI/CHI/CMI).

Responsibilities

• Interpreting in-person, telephone and video interpreting services for healthcare professionals, patients and companions.
• Document interpreting services in the electronic medical record.
• Identify and communicate quality concerns; participate in quality improvement activities.
• Translate, proofread, edit and revise translated materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Accurately interprets messages between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients and healthcare providers or support staff in a variety of settings. Translates the written version of documents or medical records as requested.

Principle Responsibilities

• Interpreting.
  • Provides accurate, and complete in-person, telephone and video interpreting services to healthcare professionals, patients and companions following department standards and National Council on Interpreting in Health Care ethics and standards of practice. Will require driving/traveling based on patient needs.
• Documentation.
  • Documents interpreting services in the electronic medical record.
• Safety and Quality.
  • Identifies and communicates quality concerns.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve service.
• Translation.
  • Translates, proofreads, edits, and revises translated materials following accepted professional standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
• Vocational or Technical Training in a medical interpreter training such as Bridging the Gap, The Community Interpreting and/or interpreting credits from an accredited institution
• 0 to 2 years of interpreting experience preferably in health care

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Associate's or Vocational degree in business or health care related field or equivalent

Licenses/Certifications

• State of Minnesota Medical Interpreters Roster required
• Valid Driver's License required upon hire - MN and WI residents must obtain a valid driver's license in their state of residence within 60 days of employment
• One of the following is required within 1 year of employment with Allina:
• National Health Care Interpreter Certification within 1 year
• Certified Health Care Interpreter (CHI) or Core CHI from Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters
• Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) from National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters
• Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) or Hub-CMI from National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters

Pay Range

Pay Range: $26.07 to $35.72 per hourThe pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
