Job summary

Highlands Housing Corporation in Kentucky seeks an AmeriCorps Construction Specialist to assist in building and rehabilitating affordable housing. You will report to the Vice President of Construction and commit to a 12-month term, working 37.5 hours per week on site.

You will participate in construction activities, coordinate with managers and subcontractors, and maintain project records while supporting mission-driven housing initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction, carpentry, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

  • Proficiency with construction tools and equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skilled in utilizing Buildertrend software.
  • Commitment to the mission of providing affordable housing to those in need.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the construction, renovation, and repair of affordable housing units.
  • Perform a variety of skilled and unskilled construction tasks including framing, drywall, painting, flooring, roofing, and finishing.
  • Ensure all work complies with local building codes and standards.
  • Assist in planning and scheduling construction activities, ensuring projects are completed on time.
  • Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Perform site visit for pre-construction evaluation.
  • Collect cost details for rehabilitation jobs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials used, and hours served.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting permit applications and ensuring all necessary permits are obtained for construction projects.
  • Serve as a point of contact for project updates, communicating regularly with team members.
  • Coordinate warranty matters.
