Job summary

The Stepping Stones Group is seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to join our full-time school-based team in Norfolk, VA. You will provide sign language interpretation to support Deaf or Hard of Hearing students and ensure meaningful participation in classroom instruction and school activities.

Qualifications

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
• EIPA 3.0 or higher or VQAS level I/II, II/II, II/III or III/III.
• Previous experience interpreting in educational settings preferred.
• Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpretation for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing during classroom instruction and school activities.
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, peers, and families as appropriate.
• Interpret lectures, discussions, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
• Support students' access to academic content while promoting independence and self-advocacy.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
• Adhere to professional ethics, confidentiality standards, and district policies.
• Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as needed.
