Job summary

Penn Medicine’s Ambulatory Retail Pharmacy Technician – Specialty role supports patient-facing and operational tasks within the Central Fill Specialty Pharmacy. You’ll assist with dispensing, insurance verification, and coordinating with pharmacists, social workers, and specialty teams to ensure timely access to medications.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, CPhT, PA State Board registration, and typically 1 year of retail pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is required.
• Registered Pharmacy Technician with the PA State Board of Pharmacy is required.
• 1 year of retail pharmacy technician experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work with Operations team to prepare and dispense medications (counting, labeling, packing).
• Process prescriptions for ambulatory/specialty patients and verify medication histories.
• Communicate coverage, payment responsibilities, and prescription status to patients and staff; collaborate with pharmacists and care teams.
• Verify insurance requirements and gather information for claim adjudication; escalate coverage issues when needed.
