Job summary

Northern Valley Indian Health in California is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join a patient-centered care team. The role supports patients by rooming, taking vitals, and preparing the provider for visits, while operating under RNs and physicians.

The position requires phlebotomy, injections, EHR proficiency, and travel between sites as needed. The team emphasizes compassionate patient care, accurate documentation, and billing support for community programs.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Current certification from approved programs listed by the California Medical Board preferred.
• Six months of phlebotomy training preferred.
• One year of medical assistant experience preferred.
• Electronic Health Records experience required.
• Ability to document patient information accurately and handle specimens.
• Ability to perform injections as policy requires.

Responsibilities

• Room patients, document visit reason, take vitals, and assist the provider.
• Perform nursing lab duties including urine tests, A1C, lipids, and screens per policy.
• Draw blood, log specimens, and assist with injections and specimen handling.
• Conduct eye and audiometric screening and perform EKGs as needed.
• Complete documents for third party billing and charting for programs like WIC and CHDP.
• Maintain patient care standards and follow clinic policies.
• Communicate issues to nursing and medical leadership; support clinic operations.
• Travel to other sites for training or coverage as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
