Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Education and training equivalent to 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that include either 24 hours of medical laboratory technology or 24 hours of science with chemistry/biology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification endorsed by the AHA upon orientation.
  • Recent experience in laboratory work, preferably histology.
  • Experience in a physician’s office preferred.
  • Bachelor of science or formal histology training program preferred.
  • Medical assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare biological material for histological analysis/diagnosis.
  • Develop understanding of histological/immunohistochemical techniques.
  • Support continuous improvement of laboratory services for timely pathology information.
  • Provide high quality customer service to patients and others.
  • Assist physicians and staff to promote clinic efficiency.

This is an entry level position where the incumbent will learn the basic knowledge, i.e. theoretical and practical, in the preparation of biological material for histological analysis/diagnosis. The process involves the preparation of patient tissue or research tissue according to department procedures. Develop an understanding of histological or immunohistological techniques, histochemical and/or immunohistochemical and enzyme histochemical and/or immunohistochemical reactions. Support continuous improvement of laboratory services within the organization to ensure high quality and timely pathology information for a quality diagnosis. Provides the highest quality of customer service for patients and others by performing all duties in a professional and engaging manner. Provide quality care to patients, under the direction of licensed practitioners, promote efficient operation of the clinic, and provide assistance to physicians and support staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Education and training equivalent to 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either a) 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or b) 24 semester hours of science courses that include i) 6 semester hours of chemistry ii) 6 semester hours of biology iii) 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA) upon completion of unit orientation required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recent experience in laboratory work, preferably histology laboratory preferred.
  • Experience in a physician’s office preferred.
  • Bachelor of science or successful completion of a formally recognized histology technique training program preferred.
  • Medical assistant certification preferred.
