Job summary

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Specimen Management Assistant to receive, evaluate, and process patient samples for lab testing. You will ensure samples meet pre-analytical requirements and resolve issues before testing, while organizing workload for efficiency and accuracy.

Strong communication with internal and external customers is essential. This role supports quality and timeliness of testing in a fast-paced environment, with opportunities for tuition assistance and professional growth

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Possess strong trouble shooting abilities to identify, evaluate and correct problems related to specimen quality, integrity, and appropriateness for requested orders required.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, utilize good judgment, work accurately under pressure and handle stress to meet deadlines required.
  • Computer experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, evaluate, accession, process, store and distribute patient specimens for lab testing in accordance with SOPs.
  • Ensure incoming samples meet pre-analytical testing requirements and resolve specimen issues before testing.
  • Organize workload for maximum efficiency, accuracy and to maintain quality and timeliness of patient testing.
  • Project a professional image through phone, email and other communications with internal and external customers.

As a Specimen Management Assistant, you will be responsible for receiving, evaluating, accessioning, processing, storage and distributing of patient specimens for lab testing while adhering to department standard operating procedures. Required Qualifications
