Job summary

Hendricks Community Hospital Association is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as-needed. The role involves operating emergency vehicles, transporting patients, and assisting ER staff in a fast-paced setting.

Candidates should have a high school diploma (preferred), a valid driver’s license, CPR and driving-course certification, and strong communication, leadership, and judgment skills to handle critical situations professionally.

Qualifications

• High school degree, preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• CPR certification, Equipment and Driving Course required.
• Must possess verbal and written communication skills to understand and interpret instructions, communicate with supervisor, medical and nursing staff, patients, and families.
• Should be able to use common sense and be a fair judge of character.
• Good leadership, initiative, and judgment skills.
• Ability to respond to critical situations in a professional and competent manner.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate emergency vehicles under various traffic conditions from scene of call to hospital
• Safely transport patients to hospitals or medical facilities
• Follow all traffic laws and driving protocols
• Navigate routes quickly and efficiently using maps or GPS
• Assist medical personnel with loading and unloading patients
• Ensure the ambulance is well-maintained and equipped
• Administer basic first aid when necessary
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers and medical staff
• Knowledge of emergency care equipment and location in ambulance and ER
• Maintain ambulance during shift, including cleaning, stocking, and monitoring equipment
• Assist ER nursing personnel with ambulance patients
• Maintain positive relationships with non-hospital departments (law enforcement, fire, neighboring ambulances)
• Assist ER staff as directed by ER nurse or physician
• Maintain professional growth through meetings, in-services, and workshops.
