Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of medical billing, ambulance billing, insurance follow-up, or accounts receivable preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance billing processes.
• Understanding of claim denials, appeals, posting, and reimbursement.
• Familiarity with medical billing software, electronic claim systems, and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Review and submit ambulance transportation claims to Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers.
• Follow up on outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely payment.
• Investigate denied, rejected, and underpaid claims and determine non-payment reasons.
• Contact insurance companies to verify claim status, payment details, coverage, and denial reasons.
• Prepare and submit corrected claims, reconsiderations, and appeals when necessary.
• Review EOBs and ERAs to identify payment discrepancies.
• Research eligibility, benefits, and patient coverage issues.
• Maintain accurate follow-up notes and claim status updates in billing software.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and prioritize overdue claims.
• Escalate complex claims to management when appropriate.
