Job summary

Hutco, Inc. is seeking 1st Class Aluminum Ship Fitters to work in Lockport, Louisiana. The role requires a minimum of 3 years of shipyard experience and the ability to perform layout, fabrication, and installation of pipe systems according to blueprints.

You must pass a hands-on skills test and a drug test with E-Verify. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, handling equipment safely, and working in confined spaces while moving loads and climbing to heights up to 30 feet.

Responsibilities

• Performs layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of pipe systems. Fits pipe and prepares joints for welding per system requirements.
• Reads blueprints, sketches, and templates to guide fabrication and assembly.
• Understands equipment, processes, and safety practices relevant to the Ship Fitter role.
• Accesses and works in confined spaces such as manholes as needed.
• Handles loads up to 50 pounds (up to 200 feet) and occasionally 75 pounds during shifts.
• Operates machines and tools essential to the Ship Fitter position.
• Navigates gangways, scaffolding, and varying dock/vessel heights during duties.
• Ascends and works at heights up to 30 feet; performs stooping, kneeling, and lifting as required.

Currently looking for 1st Class Aluminum Ship Fitters to work in Lockport, La. To be considered for this Ship Fitter opportunity, you must have at least 3 years of experience working in Shipyards.

REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Performs layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of pipe systems. Fits pipe and properly prepares joints for welding to meet the specific requirements of the system on which work is being done. Works from blueprints and makes fabrication sketches from which another mechanic could fabricate a unit of pipe.
• Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates.
• Have knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used for this role including the ability to perform all functions of the position in conformity with applicable regulations and generally observed safety practices.
• Enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.
• Manipulate and transport loads up to 50 pounds over distances of up to 200 feet approximately 1 to 6 times during each 8 hour shift, occasionally 75 pounds.
• Manipulate and operate all machines and tools essential to the performance of the position of Ship Fitter.
• Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights.
• Traverse and negotiate uneven surfaces and uneven heights between dock and vessel.
• Ascend and work at heights of up to 30 feet.
• Stooping, squatting, twisting, kneeling, lifting, and reaching.
