Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking an Aluminum Melt Operator for the 3rd shift at our Sheboygan, WI facility. You will operate furnaces to melt aluminum, regulate temperatures, and coordinate molten metal deliveries to die-cast machines on a strict schedule.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and forklift experience. Prior die-cast environment work is preferred; expect heat, noise, and physically active duties with strict safety practices.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year forklift experience with a current license.
  • Experience in a die-cast environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate one or more furnaces to melt aluminum ingots and scrap for die casting; keep melt within defined parameters.
  • Regulate furnace temperatures; charge furnaces with ingot and scrap; document melts as directed.
  • Deliver molten metal to die-cast machines in the right amounts and ratios; oversee distribution to cells on a set schedule to maintain central melt temperature.
  • Assist in cooling the furnace; inspect refractory lining for cracks/defects and check distribution ladles; help perform repairs as instructed.
  • Set up die-casting cells when required, including ladle, auto-spray, robotic equipment, and trim presses; remove/replace dies and make necessary machine adjustments.
  • Protect teammates by safely filling ladles, operating lift trucks, and pouring metal into furnaces during machine setup.
  • Provide relief support for the primary Furnace Tender.

The die-cast cells are counting on you to keep metal moving on schedule through the night. You regulate temperatures, charge the furnace with ingot and scrap, and coordinate timely molten metal deliveries—so operations never miss a beat.Where You’ll WorkOnsite, union role at Gardner Denver Thomas — 1419 Illinois Ave., Sheboygan, WI 53081.Schedule: 3rd shift, Monday–Friday (11:00 pm–7:00 am).What You’ll DoOperate one or more furnaces to melt aluminum ingots and scrap for die casting; keep melt within defined parameters.Regulate furnace temperatures; charge furnaces with the proper mix of ingot and scrap; document melts as directed.Deliver molten metal to die-cast machines in the right amounts and ratios; oversee distribution to cells on a set schedule to maintain central melt temperature.Assist in cooling the furnace; inspect refractory lining for cracks/defects and check distribution ladles; help perform repairs as instructed.Handle materials with power and hand equipment as needed.Set up die-casting cells when required, including ladle, auto‑spray, robotic equipment, and trim presses; remove/replace dies and make necessary machine adjustments.Protect teammates by safely filling ladles, operating lift trucks, and pouring metal into furnaces during machine setup.Provide relief support for the primary Furnace Tender.What You BringHigh school diploma or GED required; technical diploma preferred.1+ year of forklift experience with a current license.Work Environment & Physical DemandsRegular exposure to heat, dirt, grease, fumes, and elevated noise (hearing protection required when exposure exceeds 85 dB).Lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying: 5 lbs constantly, 35 lbs frequently, 75 lbs occasionally.Frequent sitting, standing, kneeling, climbing, bending, and stooping.Common tools/equipment: lift trucks (power and hand), shovels, furnace-cleaning, skimming and fluxing tools, hand tools, hoists, and required PPE.Hazards include serious cuts, burns, bruises, and potential permanent injury; goggles and heavy gloves are mandatory, and careful work practices keep risks to a minimum.Preferred Background1+ years of demonstrated furnace operations knowledge (cleaning, operation, maintenance).Comfort working from written or verbal instructions under general supervision, with guidance on unusual procedures or irregularities.Experience in a die-cast environment required prior to hiring or appointment to the position.Proficiencies That Help You SucceedTroubleshooting production equipmentMaterial handling (including heavy loads)Valid forklift licenseMechanical assembly aptitudeStrong communication abilitiesManufacturing environment experienceBlueprint/drawing literacyWork ArrangementThis role is based at our Sheboygan, WI facility.Benefits that Back YouWe believe in personal ownership—of your work, your well‑being, and your future.
