Job summary

Reading Truck in Houston, TX is seeking a Welder/Fabricator responsible for complete fabrication, assembly and welding of steel and aluminum into manufactured bodies, following build sheets and standard work instructions.

The role requires reading build sheets, cutting and forming materials, welding parts, and performing quality checks. Candidates should be able to work overtime, stand for long hours, and wear PPE in an automotive repair shop environment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and interpret build sheets and work instructions.
• Must be able to pass steel weld test.
• Must be able to pass tape measure testing.

Job description

Position Summary

Welder/Fabricator is responsible for complete fabrication, assembly & welding of raw steel & aluminum into manufactured bodies. Included, but not limited to, cutting & forming raw materials into parts, welding parts together, reading & understanding build sheets & standard work instructions for the various products we manufacture.

Position Responsibilities

• Welding steel and aluminum
• Measuring and cutting raw materials to specifications
• Assess welded surfaces, structures and components for flaws

Position Qualifications & Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret build sheets and work instructions
• Ability to work overtime and varied shift assignments if necessary
• All Welders are required to wear a form of respirator. Successful completion of pre-employment respirator testing is required.

Education / Certifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Internal or External Weld Certification required

Experience

• Welding – may be required to MIG, TIG, or Fluxcore Welding (Steel and Aluminum)
• Manufacturing industry or background experience preferred
• Tier 2 = 3-6 yrs. | Tier 3 = 7-10 yrs. | Tier 4 = 10+ yrs with consideration of level of welding capability and complexity of work

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to hold and use Weld gun in vertical, lateral, and overhead positions.
• Ability to pass Steel Weld Test
• Ability to pass tape measure testing

Work environment

• Automotive repair shop atmosphere
• Ability to work in uncontrolled weather conditions (Heat/Cold)
• Ability to stand for 8-10 hours
• Frequent bending, standing, crouching, lifting, walking, use of hands & arms
• Must be able to wear required Personal Protective equipment (PPE)
