Job summary

Von Maur is seeking an Alterations Associate to join our team in-store. You will greet customers, take measurements, and perform alterations ranging from basic to moderately complex.

Your role includes sewing, pinning, and preparing garments for pickup while maintaining a clean work area and delivering excellent service. Successful candidates will be professionally competent in alterations, be friendly, and contribute to a positive customer experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in alterations and sewing to varying difficulty levels.
• Ability to greet customers warmly and ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Proficient in measuring, pinning and marking garments to customer specifications.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, deliver friendly service and thank each guest.
• Measure, fit, mark, and pin garments to customer specs.
• Disassemble, sew and reassemble garments based on fittings.
• Repair damaged merchandise and maintain department cleanliness.
• Assist with basic to moderately difficult alterations.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and workstation.

As an Alterations Associate, your unique skills contribute to our reputation as America’s Leading Department Store. In addition to general alterations, you will alter diverse styles of women’s garments varying from formal dresses with beading to tailored clothing.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Own the customer experience – greet people sincerely, be friendly and thank every customer
• Measure, fit, mark, and pin garments according to customer specifications
• Disassemble, sew and/or reassemble garments according to measurements taken during fitting – use iron and steamer to prepare garments for customers
• Repair damaged or defective merchandise
• Garment work may range from basic to moderately difficult sewing/alteration procedures
• Maintain a clean department and work area

Candidates must be professionally competent in all basic and most advanced alterations.

The expected base wage for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr with overtime eligibility. Successful candidates’ wages will be determined based on their individual qualifications for the position.
