Job summary

Responsibilities

Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, maintain and perform organizational and intermediate (O&I) maintenance level calendar inspections on aviator’s personal survival equipment, oxygen components, and support equipment and related systems and accessories in accordance with Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIM's), Technical Directives (TD's), Maintenance Requirements Cards (MRC's), Navy instructions, manufacturer's manuals, company instructions and other approved data.

• Briefs and debriefs flight personnel on use and condition of survival equipment.
• Train aircrew in proper use of safety, water, and survival equipment.
• Transport, install and remove Cartridge Actuated Devices and Propulsion Actuated Devices.
• Pack, unpack, preserve, and maintain parachutes and seat survival kits.
• Ensure corrosion control cleaning, prevention, and treatment actions are performed as required.
• Issues and receives aircrew survival equipment.
• Perform duties of Aviator's Breathing Oxygen (ABO) Analyst when authorized and designated.
• Install and test emergency radios.
• Read, interpret, and apply instructions from blueprints, drawings, schematics, and other approved data.
• Make entries in Auto Log Sets (ALS) as required.
• Coordinate with supervision and Quality Control to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.
• Use provided test equipment and other support equipment to perform assigned tasks.
• Document work accomplished on Maintenance Action Forms (MAF), METER Card and/or NALCOMIS and maintain appropriate records.
• Adjust, maintain, and perform minor repairs on sewing machines with the use of common hand tools and publications to inspect, repair, service, troubleshoot, maintain, and overhaul components and equipment such as sewing machines.
• Assist with ordering parts, tool, materials, and equipment as required.
• Share technical knowledge with other company employees.
• May be required to assist other employees in the performance of their duties.
• Initiate reports required under the Naval Aviation Maintenance Discrepancy Reporting Program (NAMDRP).
• May be required to perform collateral duty inspection or CD QAR functions.
• Ensure Quality Control inspections are complied with.
• Assist when directed to ensure safety, security, and preservation of government owned and company owned equipment and property.
• Required to handle hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties
• May be required to perform duties of HAZMAT/HazWaste Custodian or Assistant Custodian when authorized and designated.
• Comply with established Hazardous Material/Waste Programs and Local, State, and Federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
• When directed, assist management in investigating reports of defective material, workmanship, or work sites incidents.
• Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention and Tool Control rules and regulations including participation in FOD walkdowns when directed.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
• Comply with established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities, and job assignment.
• May be required to pass a respirator physical.
• Perform other duties when directed.
• Assist in the search for lost tools/items when directed.
• Attend meetings/training when directed
• Accurately complete and sign individual employee daily timesheet.
• May be required to operate a forklift
• May be temporarily assigned to work at NAS Corpus Christi.
• May be required to qualify as Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) or Collateral Duty Quality Duty Inspector (CDQAR)

Qualifications

• Completion of U.S. Navy PR school or equivalent Air Force or Army PR school.
• Must have two (2) years’ experience in aviators personal survival equipment and safety/survival equipment maintenance.
• Must have a valid state DL upon hire and be able to meet any Government/Company licensing/qualification requirements for the position.
• Must have a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a thorough working knowledge of applicable aircrew survival equipment, oxygen components, and related support equipment inspection, troubleshooting, repair, modification, applicable explosive devices, and maintenance procedures.
• Possess a working knowledge of Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2, NAVAIR 13-1-6 series manuals and other applicable maintenance/technical manuals.
• Must be customer oriented.
• Must be able to pass an ordinance physical and become explosives handling certified within thirty (30) days of date of hire or assignment to position.

• Must have graduated from or complete within 30 days of hire, a Navy approved corrosion training course.
• Must become familiar with Company and Government Environmental, Health and Safety, Quality Control and Property Control policies and procedures and local operating procedures within sixty (60) days of date of hire or assignment to position. Must have a valid state operator's license and be able to pass the government licensing requirements for support equipment and forklifts.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) CAC (Commons Access Card)
• Obtain and maintain all applicable GSE Licenses.
• Familiarization with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series, and other applicable Navy instructions, maintenance instruction manuals, IPB's, manufacturer's manuals and company instructions as required for the performance of job functions.
• Must be able to read, speak, write legibly, and understand the English language.
• Knowledge of materials used and safety precautions as applicable to usage.
• Must have the ability to accurately carry out written and verbal orders, instructions, and directives.
