Position Summary / General Scope:

The Cataldo Education Center is seeking motivated and knowledgeable Paramedics to work as an ALS Instructor Teaching Assistant in a Per Diem capacity. As an ALS Instructor Teaching Assistant, they will support the instructional staff in delivering high-quality laboratories, simulation, ACLS, PALS and clinical education for students enrolled in the CEC Paramedic Programs. The ALS Teaching Assistant serves as a mentor, educator, and skills facilitator while promoting a professional learning environment that prepares students to meet National EMS Education Standards and state certification requirements.

The ALS Instructor teaching assistant is a certified Paramedic who instructs, evaluates and mentors students in Paramedicine, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and specialized training, ensuring adherence to OEMS standards and statewide treatment protocols. Responsibilities also include providing instruction to healthcare professionals in resuscitation techniques (CPR/ACLS/PALS), high-fidelity simulations, Skill labs, and emergency care protocols, ensuring compliance with AHA or equivalent standards, ensuring the provision of excellent educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist CEC faculty with classroom presentations, laboratory instruction, and hands-on skills training.
  • Demonstrate advanced paramedic psychomotor skills according to current EMS standards and best practices.
  • Facilitate small-group learning, review sessions, and skills practice.
  • Support simulation-based education, including patient scenarios, moulage, and equipment setup.
  • Provide individualized academic and skills remediation under faculty direction.
  • Assist students in preparing for practical examinations, clinical rotations, and National Registry testing.
  • Prepare laboratory classrooms prior to instruction.
  • Inspect, clean, inventory, and maintain EMS equipment, task trainers, and simulation supplies.
  • Ensure training equipment is operational and available for scheduled classes.
  • Assist with restocking disposable supplies and reporting equipment needs.
  • Observe and provide constructive feedback during laboratory activities.
  • Assist faculty with psychomotor skills evaluations and competency verification.
  • Document student participation, attendance, and skills completion as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and evaluations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director or Lead Instructor.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Current Massachusetts Paramedic Certification
  • National Registry Paramedic Certification
  • Current CPR and ACLS Certification
  • PALS Instructor Certification preferred

Experience:

  • 1+ year of experience in providing ALS Level care within the last 10 years.
  • 1+ Year of Teaching Assistant experience in an ALS capacity.
  • Experience with monitoring student progress, tracking and follow up
  • Experience with education standards and CoAEMSP standards.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Experience serving as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Preceptor, Clinical Educator, or instructor.
  • Experience with simulation-based education and high-fidelity manikins.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.
  • Comply with UDS drug screening at any and all times
  • Maintains satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.
  • Verification and maintenance of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.
