Job description

Description

The eDiscovery Automated Litigation Support (ALS) Lab Manager leads the team and technical operations responsible for processing electronically stored information for complex litigation matters. The ALS lab is an eDiscovery processing environment where electronic files are received, processed, converted, filtered, quality checked, loaded into review platforms, and prepared for production. The manager ensures these services are delivered accurately, consistently, and on time so attorneys and litigation teams can efficiently review evidence, meet discovery obligations, and respond to demanding case schedules.

This position combines technical leadership, people management, and direct support to litigation professionals. The manager oversees daily processing activities, assigns and monitors technical work orders, resolves complex data and production issues, and ensures incoming and outgoing productions comply with applicable electronically stored information specifications. The successful candidate will also advise attorneys, paralegals, and case managers throughout the eDiscovery lifecycle and design technical solutions responsive to their litigation needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of eDiscovery data-processing services supporting complex litigation matters.

  • Manage, supervise, and provide technical direction to a team of eDiscovery processing and litigation support professionals.

  • Oversee electronic file processing, image and data conversion, data culling, database loading and retrieval, data analysis, quality assurance, and production preparation.

  • Assign and prioritize technical work orders, balance team workloads, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed accurately and within required timeframes.

  • Review incoming productions to confirm compliance with applicable electronically stored information specifications and identify any deficiencies.

  • Ensure outgoing productions comply with court orders, stipulations, agreed-upon protocols, and applicable technical specifications.

  • Consult with attorneys and litigation support personnel on best practices for meeting electronically stored information requirements.

  • Advise attorneys, paralegals, and case managers throughout all phases of the electronic discovery lifecycle.

  • Analyze litigation-team needs and design comprehensive technical solutions responsive to legal, processing, review, production, and scheduling requirements.

  • Participate in legal proceedings and discovery-planning activities, including Rule 26(f) conferences.

  • Develop, document, and enforce standardized processing, quality-control, chain-of-custody, and escalation procedures.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex file-processing, conversion, database-loading, and production issues.

  • Review quality results, identify recurring problems, and implement corrective actions or workflow improvements.

  • Monitor processing requests and communicate risks, delays, resource constraints, deficiencies, and recommended solutions to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Evaluate processing tools, technologies, and workflows to improve accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and defensibility.

  • Maintain documentation supporting data receipt, processing decisions, quality-control activities, exception handling, and productions.

  • Promote knowledge sharing, cross-training, and consistent technical practices across the eDiscovery processing team.

Requirements

  • At least eight years of experience performing eDiscovery functions, including electronic file processing, image and data conversion, data culling using review tools, quality assurance, database loading and retrieval, data analysis, and document-review support.

  • At least five years of management or supervisory experience.

  • Extensive eDiscovery data-processing experience.

  • Extensive experience using Relativity or RelativityOne.

  • Thorough knowledge of the litigation discovery process and Electronic Discovery Reference Model workflow.

  • Working knowledge of document-review software such as iCONECT, Relativity, Venio, or comparable platforms.

  • Experience managing incoming and outgoing productions against established electronically stored information specifications.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a technical team, establish priorities, provide direction, and oversee performance.

  • Ability to analyze attorneys’ needs and design and implement comprehensive technical solutions responsive to those needs.

  • Broad knowledge of enterprise information technology environments, including office automation networks, personal computers, servers, databases, and business applications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required U.S. Government Public Trust suitability determination.

Preferred:

  • Certification in Relativity, iCONECT, Venio, or another recognized document-review or eDiscovery platform.

  • Experience with litigation support tools such as LAW, IPRO, Concordance, LiveNote, Microsoft Office, or comparable technologies.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation: $104,000-$124,000/year

  • Benefits: Health, life, dental, vision, and disability insurance (eligible after 30 days).

  • Additional: HSA, 401(k) with employer match, and educational reimbursement.
