Job summary

Lynker Technologies seeks a Physical Scientist for All-sky and All-surface Radiance Satellite Data Assimilation in the DC area. The role supports the NWS Office of Modeling and Development to advance data assimilation for the Unified Forecast System using CRTM.

The position offers a hybrid schedule (2 days in College Park, MD office and 3 days remote) and requires expertise in data assimilation, radiative transfer, HPC, and modern programming languages (Fortran, Python, C++), with UNIX scripting

Qualifications

• Experience in data assimilation for numerical weather prediction.
• Knowledge of geophysical modeling physics and atmospheric models.
• Radiative transfer modeling for data assimilation (CRTM or RTTOV).
• Experience with UNIX, scripting, and modern programming languages.

Responsibilities

• Develop all-sky/all-surface satellite radiance assimilation techniques.
• Improve QC, bias correction, and observation error specs using AI/ML.
• Design, setup, and run impact assessments for pre-implementation testing.
• Collaborate with OMD scientists and JEDI for integration.
