Job description

Math & Physics Teacher - High school for students with mild/moderate learning differences

Education Specialist or Single Subject teacher.

Do you have a passion for creating highly engaging lessons that make content accessible to many types of learners? Do you enjoy creating those "aha" moments in your students?

Bayhill is a small school in Berkeley, CA, for students who have struggled to learn in large traditional schools. Our bright, motivated students have learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, and executive functioning challenges. They thrive in small, supportive environments where teachers create innovative and engaging lessons that capitalize on students’ natural curiosity and desire to learn. Many of our students graduate to attend 4-year universities, art and design schools, trade programs, and more.

We are looking for a teacher to teach Algebra 1, Geometry, and Physics to classes of 8-10 students. You will teach the standard curriculum that fulfills the California graduation requirements and the UC system requirements for entrance into a 4-year university, yet adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of your students.

Employee Duties & Responsibilities

  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.

  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs

  • Manages the classroom to maintain an effective learning environment of fairness, equity, and inclusion.

  • Projects a positive role model image for students and colleagues by participating as a team member, cooperating with staff, demonstrating compromise and appropriate expression of opinions; attending staff meetings as required; and actively participating in all other school-related activities/functions, to include clubs, extracurricular activities, and school events (school picnic, Back to School Night, Open House, etc.)

  • Utilizes the chain-of-command in all aspects of the program and follows the Staff Procedures and Expectations Manual.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all student records per program guidelines.

  • Completes specialized training necessary for NPS compliance or the general safety and security of students and Bayhill High School
