Job summary

Volunteers of America Eastern Washington is seeking a dedicated Support Staff member for Alexandria’s House, a maternity group home for young mothers and their children. You will help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment while building trusting relationships and guiding daily life skills.

The role emphasizes positive youth development, mentorship, and clear professional boundaries, with opportunities to grow within housing and family services in a supportive team setting.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED/HSEC.
• One year experience working directly with children or two years of post-secondary education.
• Ability to pass Washington DCYF background check.
• Strong communication and professionalism.
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in emotionally complex situations.
• TB test and Vaccinations requirements may be required within six months of hire.

• Create a welcoming, structured, and respectful home environment.
• Build appropriate rapport with residents while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Support daily routines such as meals, childcare support, chores, and schedules.
• Coach residents through parenting skills, household responsibilities, and life skills.
• Encourage participation in assigned activities and responsibilities.
• Help plan and participate in group activities and special events.
• Monitor the home to ensure safety, cleanliness, and stability.
• Complete required documentation and service notes.
• Work independently during assigned shifts while collaborating with the team.

About The Role

As Support Staff at Alexandria’s House, you help create a safe, structured, and nurturing home for young mothers and their children. This maternity group home supports young parents who are building stability, parenting skills, and independent living capabilities.

This role is centered on human connection, consistency, and mentorship. You’ll build trusting relationships with residents while maintaining clear professional boundaries—offering encouragement, guidance, and a steady presence through day-to-day challenges.

Support Staff use a positive youth development approach, helping residents practice life skills, daily routines, and healthy decision-making in a supportive environment. This is also a strong entry-level role for individuals interested in housing, family services, or nonprofit work, with opportunities to grow within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Schedule Options

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Swing Shift: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• Night Shift: 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Part time and Full-time positions available with multiple shift options

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• High School Diploma or GED/HSEC
• One (1) year experience working directly with children or two (2) years of post-secondary education
• Ability to pass Washington DCYF background check
• Strong communication and professionalism
• Ability to remain calm and supportive in emotionally complex situations

(May be obtained at no cost within six months of hire)

Required Certifications

• CPR / First Aid
• Bloodborne Pathogens training
• Food Handler’s Permit

Additional Requirements

• TB test prior to employment (or recent negative result)
• Tdap and Influenza vaccinations (or current documentation)
