Job summary

Somerset County Public Schools in Westover, Maryland seeks a full-time Alternative Learning Center Teacher to provide academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support in a small-group setting. The teacher will design short-term, individualized lessons and collaborate with administrators, families, and staff to help students transition back to a traditional classroom.

This 10-month position offers benefits and a salary based on experience.

Qualifications

• Educational & Certification Requirements: Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or related field.
• Certification: Maryland Professional Educator Certificate or eligibility.
• Experience in education and behavioral support is preferred.
• Knowledge of strategies to support self-regulation and transitions back to traditional classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Plan and provide academic instruction aligned with courses and student needs.
• Develop daily lesson plans and structured activities.
• Monitor attendance, progress, and behavioral progress.
• Maintain records and communicate progress with staff and families.
• Teach self-regulation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and positive decision-making.
• Collaborate with families, teachers, counselors, and administrators to support success.
