Job summary

Colonial Group seeks an Environmental Technician Lead to manage daily site environmental compliance, waste management, and regulatory tasks at Eareckson Air Station, Shemya, Alaska. This on-site, union-backed role includes training staff, leading inspections, and coordinating hazardous material programs.

Ideal candidate has extensive DoD environmental experience, certifications, and the ability to operate in a remote Arctic location with periodic travel and long shifts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with environmental compliance programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; substitutions allowed for experience.
  • Current 40-hour RCRA certification.
  • Current DOT/IATA/IMDG certifications or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Current asbestos abatement certification and Alaska Fitness card; or ability to obtain in 6 months.
  • Certified Lead Inspector per 40 CFR 745 or obtainable within 6 months.
  • EPA VEMS certification or obtainable within 1 year.
  • Intermediate MS Word, Excel, Outlook skills.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license with clean record.
  • Ability to obtain National Agency Check with Inquiries.
  • Pass background check, drug screening, fingerprints; fit-for-duty for remote site.

Responsibilities

  • Train and guide Environmental Technician on daily tasks and compliance.
  • Oversee waste management, MAP/SAPs, and waste streams.
  • Ensure hazardous waste collection, packaging, and shipping per contract.
  • Inspect storage areas and maintain waste logs and sampling records.
  • Collect environmental samples including stormwater, soil, asbestos, and lead.
  • Prepare documentation for CDRL submissions and incident reports.
  • Lead spill response actions and root-cause analyses.
  • Maintain Environmental Management Plans and conduct facility inspections.
  • Assist with environmental regulatory compliance for aviation and mult-modal sites.
