Job summary

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service seeks a Maintenance Worker in Alaska to maintain multiple buildings and housing units, perform basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks, and service boilers and heating systems.

The role includes vehicle and equipment maintenance, grounds upkeep, and supporting safety programs in challenging, mountainous terrain. Work is primarily outdoors (95%) with exposure to weather, and requires lifting up to 50 pounds unaided.

Qualifications

• Experience with building & facilities maintenance including carpentry, electrical and plumbing tasks.
• Ability to perform safety inspections and operate tools and equipment.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift heavy objects.

Responsibilities

• Maintain buildings and housing units, including basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing tasks, boiler and heating systems, and routine repairs.
• Perform scheduled service on refuge vehicles and heavy equipment; ensure functionality of equipment.
• Maintain refuge grounds year-round: mowing, trimming, snow removal, and operating light machinery.
• Support safety program, manage chemical storage, track supplies, and complete required paperwork.
