Job summary

Western States Fire Protection in Sparks, NV is seeking an Alarm & Detection Technician to inspect, install, repair, and service fire alarm systems on-site. You will ensure compliance with NFPA codes and document testing results on iPads while coordinating with the Project Manager to meet schedules.

Ideal candidates will hold NICET I and II within the required timelines, a Nevada Fire Alarm License, and prior fire alarm service experience.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of NFPA codes and standards.
• NICET I and II certifications or equivalent.
• Nevada Fire Alarm License required; field installation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Test equipment after installation or repairs to ensure system performance.
• Follow safety procedures per the company manual.
• Input testing results on iPads and generate reports.
• Analyze and troubleshoot fire alarm systems and components.
• Program dialers for monitoring and manage line monitoring.
• Perform basic repairs and installs for various systems and devices.
• Prepare final reports, deficiency reports, and bids as needed.
• Interact with clients, field personnel, and fire marshals.
• Review blueprints and coordinate with engineers and contractors.
• Communicate daily with Project Manager on schedule and delays.
• Train apprentices on procedures and installation techniques.

Alarm & Detection Technician

The function of this position is to provide reliable, high quality customer support through on-site inspecting, installing, repairing and/or replacing fire alarm equipment as well as conducting preventive maintenance services pertaining to many different manufacturer’s equipment.

Job Responsibilities

• Tests all equipment after installation or repairs made to ensure performance of system
• Work in compliance with the Company’s safety manual with safety of self and others in mind at all times
• Use company software to input testing results. All work completed on iPads; some minimal technology skills needed
• Analysis and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems including Ground-Faults, Shorts, Wire Integrity, Termination, Panel, Fuses, Battery Testing and much more
• Program dialers for monitoring. Phone line traditional and cell phone monitoring skills needed
• Complete basic repairs and installations including moves, adds, relocates for all types of systems and devices
• Complete final reports, deficiency reports and possible bids via a computer and/or tablet
• Interact with clients, field personnel and fire marshals
• Analysis of blueprints
• Coordination with other disciplines, engineers, general contractors and end users
• Daily communications with Project Manager and/or Schedule Coordinator on inspection or project delays, requirements and general status of jobs
• Responsible for training apprentices on Company procedures, systems inspection and installation techniques
• All work is performed to NFPA and Company standards with quality inspection and installation techniques practiced
• Works with Project Manager, Schedule Coordinator and Office Administrative Staff to ensure complete closeout and turnover of jobs to the client (Ensure that work is completed so it can be billed in full)

Job Qualifications

• Knowledge of NFPA codes is required
• NICET I Certification within 1 year of employment
• NICET II Certification within 1 year after NICET I is achieved
• Nevada Fire Alarm License required
• High School Diploma/ GED required
• Fire Alarm Service Experience required
• Manufactures certifications are preferred but not required (EST, Gamewell, FCI, Notifier, Honeywell, Simplex, Siemens)
• Field installation experience is a plus
• Solid knowledge of NFPA 72, Factory Mutual and applicable codes is preferred
• Possess an understanding of expenses and scheduling
• OSHA 30 is a plus
• Ability to pass a post-offer drug test, background and reference check

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
