Job summary

Western States Fire Protection Company is hiring an Alarm & Detection Technician to inspect, install, repair, and maintain fire alarm equipment on-site. You will conduct preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with safety procedures using on-site tools and company software on tablets.

The role requires NFPA knowledge, NICET certifications within specified timelines, and strong troubleshooting and coordination with project teams.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NFPA codes is required.
  • NICET I Certification within 1 year of employment.
  • NICET II Certification within 1 year after NICET I is achieved.
  • High School Diploma/ GED required.
  • Manufactures certifications are preferred but not required (EST, Gamewell, FCI, Notifier, Honeywell, Simplex, Siemens).
  • Field installation experience is a plus.
  • Solid knowledge of NFPA 72, Factory Mutual and applicable codes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Tests all equipment after installation or repairs made to ensure performance of system.
  • Work in compliance with the Company’s safety manual with safety of self and others in mind at all times.
  • Use company software to input testing results. All work completed on iPads; some minimal technology skills needed.
  • Analysis and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems including Ground-Faults, Shorts, Wire Integrity, Termination, Panel, Fuses, Battery Testing and much more.
  • Program dialers for monitoring. Phone line traditional and cell phone monitoring skills needed.
  • Complete basic repairs and installations including moves, adds, relocates for all types of systems and devices.
  • Complete final reports, deficiency reports and possible bids via a computer and/or tablet.
  • Interact with clients, field personnel and fire marshals.
  • Analysis of blueprints.
  • Coordination with other disciplines, engineers, general contractors and end users.
  • Daily communications with Project Manager and/or Schedule Coordinator on inspection or project delays, requirements and general status of jobs.
  • Responsible for training apprentices on Company procedures, systems inspection and installation techniques.
  • All work is performed to NFPA and Company standards with quality inspection and installation techniques practiced.
  • Works with Project Manager, Schedule Coordinator and Office Administrative Staff to ensure complete closeout and turnover of jobs to the client (Ensure that work is completed so it can be billed in full).

Alarm & Detection Technician

The function of this position is to provide reliable, high quality customer support through on-site inspecting, installing, repairing and/or replacing fire alarm equipment as well as conducting preventive maintenance services pertaining to many different manufacturer’s equipment.
