City of New Orleans is seeking a highly skilled journeyman electrician for advanced field and indoor work in installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical circuits, equipment and fixtures including runway lighting and power distribution systems.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and licensure as Class C Maintenance Electrician or Class D Journeyman with eligibility verified before appointment.

  • Licensure: Class "C" Maintenance Electrician or Class "D" Journeyman Electrician with authority from the New Orleans Board of Electrical Examiners or another jurisdiction.

Job description

Highly skilled advanced field and indoor work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical circuits, equipment and fixtures including runway lighting and power distribution systems; and related work as required.

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma.*
  2. A valid driver's license.* Applicants must be eligible for coverage under the airport's auto liability insurance policy.
  3. EITHER aClass "C" Maintenance Electrician license from either the New Orleans Board of Electrical Examiners or another jurisdiction or state OR Class "D"Journeyman Electrician license from either the New Orleans Board of Electrical Examiners or another jurisdiction or state.*

* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education and licenses claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.

NOTE: If hired, Aviation employees must maintain all required licenses, permits, certificates, and auto liability insurance eligibility during the duration of their employment. Failure to comply with any of the above listed provisions will result in termination.

NOTE: Pay above the minimum for superior qualifications may be granted under Civil Service Commission Rule IV Sec. 2.7 based on a review of the applicant pool, candidate's verified experience, education, and/or possession of related certifications. A qualifying review of licensure.

This is a non-competitive original entrance examination.

NOTE: Candidates must pass a personal, criminal, and employment background check required under federal regulations.

This position requires a one year probationary period.

DOMICILE REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after January 1, 2013, must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire. Public safety employees such as commissioned law enforcement officers hired by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), firefighters hired by the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), emergency medical technicians hired by the New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS) and the recruits for these positions hired by these departments are excluded from this provision. Airport employees are excluded from this provision if the actual domicile of the employee is nearer to the employee’s job site than the distance from the job site to the nearest point of Orleans Parish.
