The City of New Orleans seeks an EMT-Basic to respond to emergency medical calls, dispatch EMS units and transport patients to facilities while providing basic care under supervision.
Applicants must hold EMT-Basic and CPR, with a REPLICA EMS license and an Orleans Parish EMT permit; physical agility testing is required and domicile rules apply for new hires.
Specialized work, under professional supervision, in the receipt of emergency medical calls, dispatching of appropriate emergency medical vehicles, driving emergency medical vehicles (specifically ambulance type vehicles), transportation and care of patients to a medical facility, and administration of basic emergency medical aid; and related work as required.
If hired, employees must maintain all required licenses, permits and certificates during the duration of their employment. Failure to comply with any of the above listed provisions will result in termination.
Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify professional licenses/certifications claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
The probationary period for this position shall be one (1) year.

Domicile requirements are currently waived for the purpose of application. However, all new full-time employees hired into this classification on or after January 1, 2013 must be domiciled in Orleans Parish within 180 days of hire. Airport and public safety employees are excluded from this provision.

Residency requirements are waived for all Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans positions vacant and advertised for at least 90 days.
