Job summary

The Roanoke Regional Airport Commission is looking for a dedicated Airport Maintenance Technician to ensure the safety and functionality of the airport. Your responsibilities will include grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and responding to weather conditions while working both outdoors and on responsibilities related to facility maintenance.

Are you ready to take your skills to new heights? The Roanoke Regional Airport Commission is looking for a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team as an Airport Maintenance Technician. Pay will be based on your skills, experience, and qualifications. This is more than just a job—it's an opportunity to play a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and smooth operations of our airport.

What You'll Do

As an Airport Maintenance Technician, you'll tackle a variety of important tasks that keep our airport running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:

• Grounds Maintenance: Mowing, landscaping, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, and maintaining fences.
• Paved Areas: Sweeping, repairing, and ensuring the safety of all paved surfaces, including airport runways
• Equipment Operation: Operating, fueling, and cleaning trucks, tractors, and other powered tools.
• Weather Response: Removing snow and ice during winter conditions.

This position is primarily on the Airfield Maintenance team; however, you will be cross‑trained on some facilities maintenance to include:

• Building Repairs: Plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, and other facility maintenance tasks.
• Airfield Systems: Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and lighting systems, as well as security gates and passenger loading bridges.

This job involves working outdoors in all types of weather. This position is a day shift role but does require one week of evening shifts and one weekend rotation every 7-8 weeks. The rotation is shared among the team, ensuring coverage while keeping the schedule fair and predictable.

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• A High School diploma or equivalent.
• Hands‑on experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, pavement maintenance or similar. Facilities maintenance or trades experience is a plus.
• A team player with a strong work ethic and problem‑solving mindset
• A valid Virginia driver's license and a clean driving record.
• The ability to pass a TSA security clearance and drug test.
