Job summary

Roanoke Regional Airport Commission seeks an Airport Maintenance Technician to keep our airport safe and functional. You will handle grounds maintenance, paving, equipment operation, and weather response on the airfield.

This role includes cross-training in building repairs and airfield systems, working outdoors in all weather, and a day shift with occasional evening shifts and weekend rotations. A Virginia driver's license and TSA clearance are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, pavement maintenance or similar.
• Team player with a strong work ethic and problem-solving mindset.
• A valid Virginia driver's license and a clean driving record.
• The ability to pass a TSA security clearance and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Grounds maintenance, landscaping, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding and maintaining fences.
• Sweep, repair and ensure safety of paved surfaces including airport runways.
• Operate, fuel and clean trucks, tractors and other powered tools.
• Respond to winter weather with snow and ice removal.
• Cross-train in building repairs and airfield systems (plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, lighting, gates).
• Work outdoors in all types of weather and on a day shift with occasional evening shifts and weekend rotations.

Are you ready to take your skills to new heights? The Roanoke Regional Airport Commission is looking for a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team as an Airport Maintenance Technician. Pay will be based on your skills, experience, and qualifications. This is more than just a job-it's an opportunity to play a critical role in ensuring the safety, functionality, and smooth operations of our airport.

What You'll Do

As an Airport Maintenance Technician, you'll tackle a variety of important tasks that keep our airport running smoothly. Your responsibilities will include:

• Grounds Maintenance: Mowing, landscaping, planting, pruning, mulching, weeding, and maintaining fences.
• Paved Areas: Sweeping, repairing, and ensuring the safety of all paved surfaces, including airport runways
• Equipment Operation: Operating, fueling, and cleaning trucks, tractors, and other powered tools.
• Weather Response: Removing snow and ice during winter conditions.

This position is primarily on the Airfield Maintenance team, however you will be cross-trained on some facilities maintenance to include:

• Building Repairs: Plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, and other facility maintenance tasks.
• Airfield Systems: Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and lighting systems, as well as security gates and passenger loading bridges.

This job involves working outdoors in all types of weather. This position is a day shift role but does requires one week of evening shifts and one weekend rotation every 7-8 weeks. The rotation is shared among the team, ensuring coverage while keeping the schedule fair and predictable.

What We're Looking For

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• A High School diploma or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, pavement maintenance or similar. Facilities maintenance or trades experience is a plus.
• A team player with a strong work ethic and problem-solving mindset
• A valid Virginia driver's license and a clean driving record.
• The ability to pass a TSA security clearance and drug test.
