Job summary

City of Concord is seeking an Airport Maintenance Technician to perform general maintenance and service of airport equipment, vehicles, and machinery. Responsibilities include inspecting and servicing vehicles, maintaining logs, and performing airfield and building upkeep.

Position requires adherence to safety rules, ability to handle heavy lifting, and willingness to perform snow removal and related tasks as needed at the airport.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building, vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of airfield maintenance principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance tasks and light construction work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain vehicles and equipment with routine service, inspections, and fluid changes.
  • Keep logs for vehicle and equipment maintenance and time spent on each job.
  • Perform airfield maintenance including lighting, painting, and snow removal as needed.
  • Conduct building maintenance such as lighting, drywall, painting and janitorial duties in airport buildings and hangars.
  • Clean ramp and tiedown areas.
  • Perform other similar duties as required.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to perform general maintenance and service of the airport on equipment, vehicles, and machinery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains vehicles by conducting daily inspections, performing routine maintenance, changing filters and fluids, alternators, belts, starters, batteries, PTO’s, drive shafts, power steering pumps, wheel bearings, tires, wiper blades, and spark plugs on all motor vehicles, ground equipment, and landscaping equipment.
  • Maintains records and logs for vehicles and equipment which include: material requisition orders, purchase orders, material used, and time spent on each job.
  • Performs airfield maintenance such as changing bulbs, transformers, wiring connections, circuit boards, fuses, directional, and obstruction lights, conducting tiedown rope/anchor inspections, painting and striping, and snow removal on all taxiways, runway, and safety areas.
  • Performs building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, building drywalls, painting, and other remodeling projects, and completing daily janitorial duties of cleaning the floors, walls, and bathrooms in all city owned buildings and hangars at the airport.
  • Cleaning ramp and tiedown areas.

Licensing and Certifications:
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License
  • Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License preferred

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.
