Job summary

Qualifications

  • Texas Driver License required.
  • CDL preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of FAA standards and airport maintenance practices.

Job description

Leads and and participates in inspection, maintenance, construction and repairs at the municipal airfield.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with scheduling assigned work on and around the airfield;
  • Instruct, train and oversee the work of a crew in the maintenance of airport facilities and grounds;
  • Assist in monitoring runway conditions during inclement weather to determine actions needed in order to keep the airport operational;
  • Works alongside the crew and assists, monitors, inspects and approves crew work output;
  • Provide informal assessment of crew performance to the supervisor;
  • Review work of crew for conformance to Federal Aviation Administration standards.Facilities include all runways, taxiways, ramps, airfield lighting, security gates and fences, roadways, safety areas, and associated navigation aids;
  • Provide guidance and oversight to contractors and monitor their QA/QC efforts;
  • Assist with purchases utilizing the purchasing card, and monitor the appropriate department accounts to remain within budget;
  • Assist with processing accounts payable for Direct Payment Requests, purchasing card, purchasing orders, and purchase requisitions;
  • Assist in the preparation of work injury forms for on-the-job accidents;
  • Prepare and submit department payroll in the absence of the supervisor;
  • Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications:

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with one to two years of experience in airfield maintenance plus supervisory experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

  • Physical Exam Required
  • Valid Texas Driver License required
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, but not required
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Materials, methods, and equipment used in the maintenance of the airport facilities.
Ability to:
  • Operate trucks, maintainers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and similar equipment;
  • Perform routine plumbing, vehicle service and maintenance, welding, and carpentry;
  • Perform concrete and asphalt work;
  • Perform maintenance of airfield lighting system with proper training and in accordance with safety procedures;
  • Read instructions and write in order to complete reports;
  • Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
  • Continuously stand and walk during and shift
  • Occasionally bend and kneel during a shiftOccasionally push and pull objects
  • Flex upper trunk forward at the waist, and flex partially at the knees
  • Move in a crawling motion in order to work under vehicles
  • Rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate various types of vehicles and machinery
