The City of Charlotte is seeking an experienced Airport Chief Maintenance Mechanic for HVAC systems. This role involves supervising installations, repairs, and maintenance, with an emphasis on compliance with safety regulations and public service. Qualified candidates must have extensive experience in commercial building systems and hold relevant HVAC licenses.

SUMMARY
This is high-level technical and administrative work overseeing maintenance and repair of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, and related trades with a concentration in HAVC systems. Work requires extensive experience reviewing aviation construction drawings and overseeing aviation construction projects. Work is performed under strict guidelines, time limitations and limited supervision. Follow guidelines for public safety, security, and customer service. Work involves considerable contact with the public, contractors, and airport employees.Salary: $71,510.40 - $111,716.80 Commensurate with Experience
Responsibilities:
Supervises and participates in the proper installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems and other related building maintenance functions. Inspects assigned Airport construction projects. Coordinates work with contracted construction inspectors and tenants. Works as Project Manager on assigned projects. Attends pre-bid and pre-construction conferences and answers questions about field conditions and special issues. Coordinates between contractors, engineers and Airport management. Meets with contractors regarding issues that arise in the field. Prepares suggested change orders that become necessary as a part of the contracts. Assign and review work of maintenance mechanics and other personnel engaged in building maintenance duties; providing technical assistance on unusual or complex assignments. Inspect equipment to determine needed repairs and necessary parts. Review work performed and materials to ensure accuracy and quality of work. Work with procurement to develop contracts and write scope of work. Authorize requests for parts, materials and supplies. Prepare cost and materials estimates on breakdowns and repairs. Perform related work as required. Ensures that employees are informed of, and comply with, safety rules, operating policies and personnel regulations. Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate/GED required with seven years of experience or associates degree and three years’ experience in a relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. One year of supervisory experience in related field required. Experience should be at least on a journeyman’s level working on large commercial building systems. NC State HVAC H2 or H3 license required.

Physical Requirements:
Spends majority of time walking and standing. Must be able to traverse a wide variety of active construction sites that may include exposure to machinery, moving objects/vehicles, scaffold and ladders. Works both inside and outside, with possible exposure to inclement weather. May also include exposure to dust, slippery, uneven surfaces, noise and vibrating tools. Works alone as necessary. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
