Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the total operation of the Airfield, to include buildings, runways, airspace, and grounds.
  • Uses knowledge of various types, capabilities and requirements of commercial and private aircraft.
  • Conducts long-range military AAF planning to establish station plans, airspace utilization plans, approaches to airport, and improvements necessary to accommodate expanding operations, aviation technology, safety requirements and user needs.
  • Ensures proper utilization, maintenance and upgrading of buildings, runways, taxiways, ramps, navigational aids and communication equipment.
  • Works with other support activities for upgrade in maintenance and support services, snow removal, contingency airfield lighting, and lawn mowing and refueling aircraft.
  • Assess airfield operations/situations, determine operational requirements and impose airfield restrictions as needed (e.g., closing/suspending operations on aprons, taxiways and runways).
  • Conduct and document a shift change briefing prior to signing off-duty.
  • Conduct airfield inspections and checks.
  • Maintain a record of daily events.
  • Execute Operating Instructions and Quick Reaction Checklists necessary to perform AFM duties and responds to situations requiring immediate action.
  • Provide transient aircrew and aircraft support - processing Prior Permission Required (PPR) requests; coordinate parking areas; receive, store, and issue classified material.
  • Provide briefings to base and transient aircrews on relevant airfield operations and restrictions.
  • Process flight plans and other air traffic related data through the national and international air traffic systems.
  • Provide flight following services and initiate appropriate actions when aircraft are overdue.
  • Prepares diagrams of runways, taxiways, facility layouts, and specifications in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  • Identifies equipment needs for operation of the airfield.
  • Develops standard operating procedures and policy for users.
  • Develops self-check forms to assist in meeting FAA standards. Plans for supply and equipment needs.
  • Prepares and submits work orders for repairs needed.
  • Shall perform Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Program services. Shall retrieve and retain or dispose of the remains of all disabled, maimed, or dead birds from the Airfield.
  • We will maintain airfield NOTAMS, input flight plans, airport layout, and aircraft characteristics.
  • Maintain the flight planning room equipment, maps, displays and publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
