Job description

Responsible to the Airport Maintenance Manager for the effective maintenance of the airport through the identification of maintenance needs, tenant compliance with their agreements with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the direction of the maintenance service contractors. Supervises and administers the functions and activities of the facilities support supervisor, maintenance mechanics, handy persons and helpers. Performs responsible supervisory duties, which will result in economical and efficient utilization of all service contract staff, materials and equipment assigned to his/her jurisdiction.

Compensation:

$92,500 - $105,000 Per Year

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Representing the Airport Maintenance Manager in his/her absence
  • Through the facilities support supervisor ensures the planning and scheduling of maintenance and repair tasks, and the composition of work crews. Makes assignments of tasks to the airport service contractors and gives instructions on work procedures to be used.
  • Assisting with the preparation of expense budgets
  • Assisting with securing proper vendor insurance certificates
  • Will fill-in for the facility support supervisor in his/her absence
  • Oversees inspections of work for progress and adequacy. Provides instructions on unusual work problems involving equipment, materials, and work processes. Consults with superior on major or costly repair problems.
  • Assisting with inspection of tenant and concessionaire facilities to ensure compliance with the maintenance provisions of their agreements.
  • Assisting with making or reviewing estimates of time and material required for maintenance work, requisition tools and materials and arranges for the use of equipment, as needed.
  • Provides status reports on airport owned or supported facilities and equipment
  • Provides recommendations for future improvements to airport owned or supported facilities and equipment
  • To the extent of expertise provides analysis of on-airport and off-airport obstructions based on data received from airport owner and/or FAA
  • Based on direction and support by airport owner proactively addresses on-airport obstructions which may impact FAA guidelines and FAA ATC line of sight needs which may include but not be limited to reduction of vegetation and/or installation of lighting and/or other required obstruction
  • Review and comment of airport and tenant construction projects
  • Uses best efforts to support M/WBE purchasing program
  • Makes continuous inspections of facility for maintenance and repair needs, and investigates equipment and other failures. Oversees emergency repairs and devises means for preventing or minimizing effects of subsequent failures.
  • Through the facility support supervisor ensures supervision of maintenance, repair, alteration, and limited installation work in such typical fields, as: electric power and lighting, plumbing, heating, paving, masonry, painting, welding, sheet metal, grass cutting, vegetation management and carpentry.
  • Oversees facility cleaning and housekeeping activities for interior and outside areas
  • Coordinating with Airport Maintenance Manager, in reviewing labor reports, materials requisitions and similar records for informational and control purposes.
  • Prepares both regular and periodic reports on maintenance activity for the Airport Maintenance Manager and/or Manager, Airport Services.
  • Actively and effectively coordinates and oversees snow removal procedures from inception to completion in close coordination with airport operations.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer contacts through positive lines of communication. Professionally representing the company through frequent and meaningful contacts with customers
  • Ensure all applicable quality records are completed and maintained in accordance with current quality system
  • Responds to other related duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or its equivalent. College coursework or Bachelor’s degree desired. At least five (5) years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of a facility and/or an airport. Experience in the operation and maintenance of complex electronic systems is desired.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrated supervision and general building maintenance capability.
  • High school education with at least five (5) years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of complex electronic systems.
  • A general knowledge of airport operations is desired.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a complex environment.
  • Strong computer skills with ability to effectively utilize programs such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, with ability to learn newly introduced programs.
  • Maintain currency in all maintenance matters including federal, state and local regulations, and communicate information to staff.
  • Maintain currency in FAR Part 139 and related regulations which affect the airport
  • Acquires all license or certificates required by regulatory agencies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and sustain a valid driver’s license in the person’s state of residence, and maintain driver record compatible with Company’s insurance company’s criteria.
  • Ability to work in a teamwork environment, including our Safety Management System and Quality Management System registered to ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2008 or related standard.
  • Through appropriate training, must be able to qualify for performance, and ability to operate heavy equipment vehicles.
  • Individual must be willing and be able to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays if required.
  • Ability to pass continuous security background checks.
  • Ability to perform the duties of this classification.
