Broward Sheriff's Office in Fort Lauderdale seeks a skilled Aircraft Technician to maintain fleet aircraft and avionics in accordance with FAA regulations. You will perform inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance under the supervision of the Senior Aircraft Technician, documenting work and ensuring safety.

The role requires a high school diploma, rotorcraft maintenance training, 3 years of maintenance/avionics experience on turbine helicopters, and a valid FAA A&P license plus Florida

Responsibilities

Maintain fleet aircraft and related aviation equipment per FAA regulations and manufacturer guidance.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, test, repair and install avionics, electrical, communication and navigation systems.
Conduct routine inspections to ensure safety and airworthiness.
Keep detailed records of maintenance, inspections and parts inventory.
Respond to callouts and coordinate with supervisors, vendors and other staff.

Vocational/technical training in rotorcraft maintenance and repair required.
Three (3) years maintenance and avionics experience with a minimum of two (2) years maintaining turbine powered helicopters in a Part 91, Part 135 and/or Part 145 environment.
Two (2) years’ experience in the troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of Airbus H125 and H145 rotorcraft equipment and related components according to manufacturer specifications as a certified mechanic preferred.
Knowledge of tools, equipment and procedures used in maintenance and repair of aircraft equipment.
Knowledge of FAA regulations and requirements, testing procedures, service techniques, methods of troubleshooting, corrosion control, inspection requirements and retirement times.
Knowledge of current FAA civilian maintenance standards, as outlined in FAR Part 91, and Part 35, Forms 337s, STCs MEL and Avionics
Current Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license.
Additional industry specific maintenance, engine, and/or other certifications may be required, as dictated by the current model and type of aircraft secured and in use by the agency.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions that affect job performance.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented on the application.

Nature of Work

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to maintain fleet aircraft and related aviation equipment in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations within the Aviation Division of the Broward Sheriff's Office. Employees in this classification perform skilled maintenance and repair work as directed. Position reports to the Senior Aircraft Technician.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

Inspects, repairs, overhauls, cleans, paints and provides for the general and routine maintenance, as needed, for fleet aircraft and related components and equipment in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations and aircraft manufacturer’s recommendations.

Troubleshoots, diagnoses, tests, repairs, installs, modified, and maintains aircraft avionics, electrical, communication, navigation, and mission equipment systems and components in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations, manufacturer specifications, and approved technical data.

Conducts periodic routine inspections for the purpose of ensuring continued safety and proper working condition of flight equipment.

Maintains detailed records concerning all work conducted, inspections performed, conditions found, and safety compliance.

Maintains departmental records and updates of inventory, service manuals, accounts receivable/payables, list of vendors/parts, and any other department related documentation.

Checks, repairs and upgrades aircraft pursuant to Federal Aviation Administration guidelines and directives.

Maintains and files reports, records, and/or statements relating to unit functions, as required by established standards and Federal Aviation Administration regulations.

Conducts routine maintenance and flight checks prior to aircraft flight.

Ensures proper use, maintenance, care, and accounting of materials, tools and equipment.

Promptly responds to callout notifications.

Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, methods, and procedures; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Communicates with supervisors, other division employees, contractors, vendors/suppliers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information or resolve problems.

Operates a personal computer as necessary to complete essential functions.

Performs related work as directed.

Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Requires intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects (100+ pounds). Most tasks are performed in an equipment/engine repair shop environment, where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Some tasks are performed in an environment with potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g., heat, humidity, toxic agents. Tasks include working around moving parts, equipment, carts, and materials handling where physical risks are predictable/controllable by observance of standard safety precautions.
