Job description

Job Title: Aircraft Mechanic II

Location with zip code: China Lake, CA 93555

Pay Rate: $48/hr on W2 (fixed)

Shift Timing (Day/ Evening/ Night): All shifts available

Duration: 6+ months

Must Have:

  • Must have F-18 series experience.
  • Location In-Person - China Lake, CA; not a remote position.
  • Position involves Organizational-Level Maintenance on F-18 Aircraft.
  • Must have an active or inactive secret clearance.
  • Contract to Perm and/or 3-6-month contract to cover leaves of absence.

Job Description:

  • Perform scheduled/unscheduled O-Level maintenance on specific applicable squadron T/M/S aircraft, including airframe, corrosion control, painting, and related systems. Perform flight line essential services as directed to support daily Flight Schedule.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty, including flight surfaces and related systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical components. Use technical knowledge to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Apply expertise to restore equipment condition and solve problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints and maintenance manuals.
  • Engine Turn and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) work shall be performed by contractor personnel at Level II Mechanic minimum at China Lake. Pt. Mugu personnel shall follow Ground Operating Procedures.
  • Receive technical guidance from supervisors or higher-level technicians. Lead teams on complex aircraft tasks and assist in aircraft logs and records entries. Prioritize workload to meet schedules and standards. Routine lifting and ordnance loading up to 167 pounds per team member are required.
  • Authorize and direct Level I work center personnel for specific maintenance actions, providing guidance and technical expertise throughout aircraft modifications and maintenance efforts.
  • May need to become Plane Captain certified according to government standards for each T/M/S supported, based on experience or equivalent training.
  • Oversee maintenance actions supporting VX-31 FA-18 Airframes, ensuring compliance with instructions and technical data.
  • Use professional expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting maintenance instructions and directives.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and monitor all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for VX-31 FA-18 Avionics Work Center.
  • Assign work, track task completion, provide updates, and perform spot checks. Report infractions and investigate incidents, recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure participation in safety and training events. Provide technical support to electronic project engineers and prioritize workload to meet flight schedules.
  • Guide lower-level technicians in aircraft modifications and maintenance efforts.

Experience Required:

  • Military VMET or JST must be included with application if prior military experience.
  • Clear documentation of experience with specific dates and locations on resumes.
  • Minimum ten years of USN/USMC/USCG O-Level maintenance experience on F-18.
  • At least three years of recent T/M experience on F-18 aircraft (preferably within last 7 years).
  • Completion of Navy Class C school for Airframes and hydraulic systems on F-18.
  • FA-18 Airframe Work Center CDI qualification required.
  • Experience as a Work Center Supervisor, Plane Captain, QAR, CDQAR, or Flight Deck Coordinator preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current US secret clearance and ability to maintain it.
  • Availability to work any shift; travel may be required.
