The Aircraft Mechanic troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition. Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, and will occasionally lead teams through more complex aircraft-related tasks.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
- Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; disassembles and inspects engine parts; repairs or replaces defective engine components; reassembles and installs engines.
- Performs electrical system repairs, preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight inspections, and general aircraft servicing duties.
- Uses technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions.
- Restores equipment condition and operation using technical expertise.
- Interprets technical documentation to solve moderate to complex problems.
- Supervises aircraft jacking and towing; verifies work quality; services engines and airframe components; may specialize in structural, engine repair, or modifications.
- Records entries in aircraft logs and records; prioritizes workload to meet schedules.
- Adheres to all applicable aircraft maintenance standards and procedures.
- Utilizes technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS applications.

- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough troubleshooting and repair knowledge of aircraft components.
- Knowledge of sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs.
- Basic electrical theory knowledge.
- Familiarity with aircraft tools and technical publications.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload.
- Understanding of corrosion control and hazardous waste procedures.
- Knowledge of aircraft subsystems and maintenance parameters.
- Valid US driver’s license; ability to interpret data; English proficiency; ability to obtain security clearance.
Experience & Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of specialized aircraft structural repair courses.
- 2-4 years of recent experience in aircraft maintenance, preferably UAV; 4 years preferred.
Physical & Working Environment
- May work indoors or outdoors, in various weather conditions.
- Exposed to noise, fumes, electrical hazards, and mechanical risks.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, crouch, and operate tools and vehicles.
