Job Summary:

Assist Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanics to repair, maintain, overhaul and troubleshoot airframes, engine systems, parts and components. Fabricate, assemble, install and repair sheet metal products and equipment. Assists with 100 hour and progressive inspections as well as modification and structural repair work on aircraft. May be required to assist lower grade mechanics.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with a variety of mechanical duties on various aircraft models involving diagnosis of malfunctions and required disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, reassembly or adjustment of various aircraft systems to prepare aircraft for flight and delivery to customer.
    • Assists with turbine engine troubleshooting, inspection, repair and engine run-ups.
    • Conducts airframe system, component changes and systems checkout.
    • Assists with installation of service bulletins and kits on airframes and engines.
  • Ensure safety practices are met related to tooling, jigs, and fixtures needed for sheet metal repairs.
  • Lay out of sheet metal parts using blueprints, drawings, written or verbal instructions.
  • Rivet and sheet metal component removal. Performs sheet metal and assembly work in the performance of modification and service work.
  • Assists with the repair of a variety of malfunctions concerned with complex aircraft assemblies and systems to include engines.
  • Performs a variety of functional test and mechanical operations on one or more aircraft models involving disassembly, rework, repair, replacement reassembly, or adjustment of various aircraft systems and components.
  • Uses equipment to operate and functional test various aircraft systems using a variety of hand tools.
  • Uses equipment such as tensiometers, micrometers, pressure gauges, dial gauges, vacuum gauges, and a variety of hand tools to repair or modify systems or assemblies.
  • Responsible only for own work.
  • May be responsible to train lower grade aircraft mechanics.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education:

  • Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification.
  • Requires use of arithmetic, blueprints and specifications plus knowledge of jet and piston airframe and engine principles.
  • Prefer either an Airframe or Powerplant Mechanic license.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of 5 years experience performing inspections, repairs, structural modification, or composite modification of aircraft. Must successfully complete Aircraft Mechanic A-573 checklist prior to qualifying or hiring for Grade A. Should an employee acquire a full Airframe and Powerplant license the employee will be reclassified to A&P Mechanic-573 upon presentation of license.

Working Conditions:

Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to exposure to noise and weather elements.
