JOB DESCRIPTION

AirCare Paramedic, Ground Transports, Full-Time Days or Nights

AirCare is part of an EMS network serving patients in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina, including air (helicopter) and ground ambulances stationed strategically to provide fast, safe transportation for critically ill and injured patients.

Job Summary:

Provides emergency care to patients according to protocols set by NCCEP and N.C. Office of EMS. Serves as a care team member in the Emergency Department, working within the scope of practice outlined by agreements with N.C. EMS and the Medical Center. Serves patients across all age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Education/Experience:

Paramedic certification from an accredited program or an A.A.S. degree in paramedic studies or equivalent. Three years of emergency service experience preferred.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and NC-OEMS EMT-P certification required. ACLS or PALS may be required within one year in some areas. Critical care certification or national registry paramedic preferred. Maintains certification through approved NC-OEMS providers.

Essential Functions:
  1. Provides patient-centered care considering physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs, including rapid evaluation and treatment of emergencies.
  2. Ensures a safe, respectful, and private environment, utilizing technology and equipment to enhance safety.
  3. Communicates effectively within the healthcare team and with patients and families.
  4. Participates in professional practice models, adhering to standards, engaging in peer review, and pursuing professional development.
  5. Acts as a patient advocate across all care settings and in the community.
  6. Identifies priorities and initiates actions to improve patient outcomes.
  7. Uses medications and treatments within scope and under physician orders.
  8. Performs point of care testing and documents all care accurately in the Electronic Medical Record.
  9. Supports optimal patient flow and safety in the Emergency Department.
Skills/Qualifications:

Ability to provide comprehensive patient care, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and respond appropriately to diverse patient needs. Proficient in electronic documentation and compliant with applicable laws and policies.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Handles emergency situations in a potentially stressful, crowded environment, with physical activities including lifting up to 100 lbs, standing, walking, and other movements necessary for patient care. Must wear PPE as required.
