Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality seeks an Engineer I (NS) in the Mooresville Regional Office to support air quality compliance and permitting. This entry-level engineering role requires strong computer skills and the ability to interpret engineering data and regulatory requirements.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and are prepared for professional registration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
• May require professional engineer registration by NC Board of Examiners.
• Strong computer and data analysis skills for air quality work.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical review and processing of minor source permit applications and assesses emission parameters.
• Determines permit applicability and writes site-specific permit conditions for Title V permits.
• Conducts on-site inspections to verify compliance with state and federal air rules.
• Evaluates air emissions inventories and conducts stack test observations; maintains EPA Method 9 certification.
• Responds to citizen complaints and provides technical reports and communications on air quality.
• Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with stakeholders.
• Maintains a valid driver's license.
